Olgrun Sees Green Lantern as the Perfect Host

Olgrun was once one of the greatest gods of the First World. That is until he went mad with grief and went on a rampage that forced the other Old Gods to split Olgrun up into seven aspects. Unable to truly die, Olgrun lay waiting in a void for eons until a tomb dedicated to Olgrun and Ajna was desecrated by ancient Maltusians. Olgrun’s fury broke through and punished the Maltusians by turning their bodies into twisted light.Olgrun’s anger forged the Dark Star of the Fenn, and gave him a connection to the land of the living.

Green Lantern War Journal 11 Main Cover: John Stewart grips his head in pain.

To truly return to life, Olgrun needed a vessel and he settled on the most powerful one he could find: John Stewart. Olgrun sent his Radiant Dead across the multiverse to a universe where John was immensely powerful. When that attack failed, the Radiant Dead came to the Prime DC Universe to find and claim the Prime Green Lantern. John had recently absorbed a cosmic phenomenon known as a Godstorm and was practically godlike, though still struggling with his new powers.

The Radiant Dead pursued Green Lantern and it wasn’t long until its leader, the Revenant Queen, kidnapped John and delivered him to Olgrun’s clutches. Thankfully, John was rescued by Byla, one of the last remaining Old Gods keeping Olgrun in check. Unfortunately, Byla’s powers were waning and the only way John could truly stop Olgrun was by claiming Ajna’s ring to destroy the Dark Star of the Fenn. John ventured into Olgrun’s realm and fought the remnants of the Old God. Unfortunately,Olgrun proved to be too great a foe for Green Lantern to defeat on his own.

Is Green Lantern About to Become the DC Universe’s Greatest Villain?

Byla has spoken numerous times about Olgrun’s strength and described him as the greatest of the gods. But with Olgrun’s might split into the various aspects that have been scattered through the multiverse, he lacked the power to come back. Fortunately for him, John Stewart dove headfirst into Olgrun’s domain, unsure if he even possessed the power to beat the Old God. Now Green Lantern is in the process of being converted intothe perfect vessel for Olgrun to inhabit and resume his mad destruction of the DC Universe.

As bad as things look right now, John has the highest levels of willpower of any Green Lantern alive.

Someone as mighty as Olgrun could have taken on a lesser host and come back to life, sure, but John is a major get. Thanks to the Godstorm, Green Lantern is more powerful than he’s ever been. Possibly more powerful than Ion or the White Lantern. Olgrun doesn’t just want a vessel, he wants someone whose power is as close to Olgrun’s power was in the Old God’s heyday.Unfortunately for Green Lantern, Olgrun is on the precipice of getting what he wantsand the world is about to suffer the consequences.

John isn’t licked just yet as his mind is still his own and Byla is trying to break the hold Olgrun currently has on Green Lantern. John’s body might be corrupted by Olgrun’s light, but the Lantern was once nearly converted by the Radiant Dead and he managed to overcome that. As bad as things look right now, John has the highest levels of willpower of any Green Lantern alive. If he can dig deep and tap into his immense willpower,Green Lantern can undo this nightmarish transformation before it’s too late.

Can Green Lantern Beat Olgrun?

While things look dire right now, John has the fortitude to survive this transformation. But what’s going to happen when Olgrun fails to possess the vessel he wants more than anything? John is strong, but Olgrun is mightier than any threat he or possibly any Green Lantern has ever faced before. His only option may be to find Ajna’s ring and sever the Dark Star’s connection while he still has a chance. But John’s going to need to give Olgrun the boot before the mad god claimsGreen Lantern’sbody and brings hell to the DC Universe.
