TheMythosaurhas become an important part ofThe Mandalorian, which has made its full reveal somewhat disappointing - though there’s a good explanation behind its current appearance. Ever since Boba Fett first wore the Mythosaur symbol on his armor, this ancient creature from Mandalore has been an important part of Mandalorian culture and lore. It has yet to actually be seen fully outside illustrations inStar WarsLegends, aside from a quick glimpse of it that was seen inThe Mandalorianseason 3, but it’s expected to play a big role in this sub-franchise’s future.

A part of a prophecy the Armorer first told Din Djarin about inThe Book of Boba Fett, the Mythosaur is expected to emerge when it’s time to herald a new age of Mandalore. The fact that Bo-Katan Kryze sees it within theLiving Waterson Mandalore in season 3, when these creatures are supposed to be entirely extinct, means the seeds for this prophecy have already been planted. Now, it’s only a matter of when audiences get to see this creature fully, not if. There is, however, a new first look that’s been provided, and it’s certainly unexpected.

Star Wars' Mythosaur Really Doesn’t Look Impressive

This Full Body Model Is A Bit Lackluster

The newly releasedStar Wars Encyclopediahas given viewers the first look at the Mythosaur in full, and the reaction to it has been somewhat mixed. For a creature as famed as this one, having been tamed by the first Mandalorians to ever call Mandalore their home, it doesn’t really look like anything special. Rather, it echoes familiarStar Warscreatures with its four legs and spiky spine. For those hoping for a more illustrious design, this may be a disappointment, but there’s a good reason why the Mythosaur looks like this - at least, at this stage.

We Need To Remember This Isn’t Really The “Finished Product”

It’s More Than Likely A “Rough Draft” Rendering

This depiction of the Mythosaur was likely plucked fromStar Wars’archives to provide a resource for this new encyclopedia, and it isn’t actually the finished version of what will be seen on screen in the future.Star Warsoften completes rough draft renderings like these just to give its creative team a better idea of what they need to account for, even when showing a partial image of a creature in the finished product. For example, inThe Mandalorianseason 2, they designed thekrayt dragon’s full body, despite only its head being seen in the actual show.

Everything Star Wars Just Revealed About Krayt Dragons, The Original Trilogy’s Most Dangerous Predator

Krayt dragons are one of the most powerful yet mysterious creatures in Star Wars, and a new guidebook has revealed more about their nature.

This was more than likely the case with the Mythosaur. Only its head can be seen underneath the Living Waters, which likely means this rendering was done simply to help the creators understand exactly how much space underneath those waters they had to account for. As the Mythosaur comes closer to making its full debut,it’s very likely that this design will change and become more glamorous and complex for the big screen. Of course, that’s still left to be seen, butThe Mandalorianhas certainly set up this appearance in good faith.
