For small blogs, sharing content on social media offers the best way for your blog to be discovered and build an audience. However, if you own a WordPress.com blog, the option to auto-share your blogs to X (formerly Twitter) is no longer available.
Here’s why that’s the case.
Why Can’t You Auto-Share Your WordPress Blog’s Content to X?
For a long time, WordPress.com has offered easy auto-share functionality to different social media platforms like Facebook and X. All of this was enabled through its Jetpack Social WordPress plugin. But starting in April,X (Twitter) overhauled its API rules and pricing tiers, which led to developers being required to pay more to access the platform’s functionality via the API.
In case you missed it, the company ditched previous plans and rolled out three new tiers: Free, Basic, and Enterprise. The Free tier is limited to 1,500 tweets a month, and the Basic tier ($100/month) has a limit of 50,000 tweets a month. In contrast, the Enterprise plan is flexible, offers higher limits, and can be customized depending on the developer’s needs, but it starts at $42,000/month (viaWired).
Because of this change, Twitter also required WordPress to comply with the new Twitter API. The company tried to negotiate with X for new terms, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Because of this, WordPress removed auto-share support for X.
According to a blog post on Jetpack.com, Kristina Plauche, a product and engineering lead at Automattic (WordPress.com’s parent company), wrote:
“Twitter decided, on short notice, to dramatically change the terms and pricing of the Twitter API. We have attempted to work with Twitter in good faith to negotiate new terms, but we have not been able to reach an agreement.”
“As a result, the Twitter connection on Jetpack Social will cease to work, and your blog posts will no longer be auto-shared to Twitter,” Kristina added.
But while you can’t auto-share content to X, you can still do it manually by copying your link to a new post on X.
Seek Alternative Options for Auto-Sharing WordPress Content to X
Despite Jetpack dropping support for auto-sharing WordPress content to X, it doesn’t mean there’s no alternative way. If you need an automatic sharing option, you’ll need to look for an alternative WordPress plugin with such functionality.
However, most alternative plugins to Jetpack that support X have a fee. If you’re willing to pay for a plugin that can automatically share your blog’s content to X, there are a variety of options you can choose from. Just do a quick internet search to discover available alternatives.
