TheTwisterride opened in 1998, only two years after the film it was based on came out. It replaced the Ghostbusters Spooktakular ride and Universal Studios tried toaccurately represent aTwistertornadoin the ride itself. Initially, the ride based on theTwistermovie was like any other with queues to access the ride.
In 2009, the ride initially reduced its opening times by only opening during the peak periods, but there was enough demand to open the ride all the time again. Unfortunately, soon after, demand declined, and fewer people attended the ride and on November 2nd, 2015, the ride officially closed its doors.Interest in the originalTwisterfilm declined, which in turn diminished guest curiosity for the ride as well.

OnceTwisterclosed, there was room for a new ride at Universal Studios Florida. On April 6th, 2017,the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon opened.The ride on the outside looks like 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where Jimmy Fallon’s talk show is recorded. The ride is still at Universal Studios Florida. This was not the first time Jimmy Fallon appeared in a ride, as he made a cameo in a scene fromJurassic Worldone.

Race Through New York is seemingly not going down in attendance like theTwisterride did and remains active. The ride does pay homage toTwisteractor Bill Paxtonby adding a shirt his character wore in the background of the attraction. Maybe the newTwistersmovie would have regained interest in theTwisterride. Of course, as it has been closed for years now, there would have been no way to re-open the ride in honor of the sequel.
