In the last few pages ofMy Hero Academiachapter 428, Uraraka can be seen looking over the city and remembering her battle against Toga. The young woman is saddened by the knowledge thatthe sacrifice Himiko made to save herwas not televised. This implies thatthe public is not aware of how the villain gave her life to save Urarakafrom dying due to blood loss. During the final moments of their fight, Ochako made Toga smile by letting her know there was nothing wrong with her, effectively saving the villain from the hatred that plagued her life.
The manga heavily implies that Uraraka’s pain comes from not saving Toga and from the public still considering her a monster for allying herself with All For One. As she ponders about her suffering, Deku arrives with a worried expression to speak with her. Ever since chapter 424, right after the death of Shigaraki,Izuku has never been shown smiling. The manga makes it clear that the lack of a smile comes from the regret he feels over not saving Shigaraki. Deku and Ochako are the only two who have shown guilt among all the heroes and students.
Chapter 428 makes it seem as if Izuku will want to speak with Uraraka about the feelings she has been hiding since the war ended. He is one of the few people in the young woman’s life who understands her feelings. Deku could save Ochako once moreas he did once before during the U.A. Entrance Exam, this time from her self-harming thoughts. Speaking with Uraraka may also help Izuku understand and let go of his guilt over not saving Shigaraki, helping both recover the smile that the war took from them.

During the Final Exams arc of theMy Hero Academiaseries, Ochako accepted that she indeed feltsomething other than friendship for Izuku. Yet, instead of acting on said attraction, she decided to hide what she felt to not distract either Izuku or herself from their studies. Although it was never explicitly stated in the series,Deku has often been shown hiding his emotions as well. He never revealed to his mother that he was being bullied and berated at school, and he often tried to pretend to be okay so as not to worry his friends.
Uraraka’s desire to become a great hero and help her family monetarily was just as harmful as Izuku’s extreme selflessness. This has become evident during the epilogue of the series, where both characters have been hiding behind a mask instead of confronting their feelings of guilt. The duo needs to bear their feeling for the other to hear, as they cannot and should not keep suffering on their own. By finally speaking about what they have been hiding, it is likely that Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the manga, isgiving fans the confession they have been waiting for years.
Since the series is nearing its end, and it has been obvious ever since the Final Exams arc that Izuku and Ochako would become a couple someday, this is the best chance for them to confess. By doing so, they would become more than just boyfriend and girlfriend, they would act as the other’s supportwhile they deal with the trauma the war left on them. It would be an amazing way to bring back the smiles they have been missing for several chapters, as they would also gain a loving and healthy relationship.
Whether they become a couple or not, it is almost guaranteed thatDeku and Urarakawill need to talk about their hidden feelings sooner rather than later. They are the only two known characters who would understand what the other is going through at the moment. If they end up becoming a couple, it would be an amazing and welcome surprise for theMy Hero Academiafans who have been waiting for years to see them confess their feelings.
