There is so much potential for future content forWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, from deeper explorations of Titus' story to the introduction of new villains. It’s not hard to take to wishful thinking, dreaming of all the40Klore that could be crammed into a DLC or sequel, but based on no hints or actual content found within the latest release. However, fans have discovered something concrete that points towards a truly terrifying40Kenemy coming to theSpace Marineseries.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Space Marine 2.]WhileSpace Marine 2’sshocking endingsets up more of Titus' personal struggles rather than a new foe for him to face, fans are pretty convinced that he will face one of the galaxy’s deadliest factions. This faction was even teased during theSpace Marine 2campaign, giving a lot of credence to the rumors. However, if it is, players should be worried, as this force is worse than anything Titus has yet faced.

The Necrons Could Be Coming To Space Marine 2
Necrons Appear During The Campaign
Players have spotted Necrons during theWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2campaign, signaling their appearance in a future entry in the series. Towards the end of the game, Titus is sent to a Necron Tomb World in search of a Techpriest who is attempting to use a Necron artifact to finally close the Warp. While he’s there, he encounters a range of Necron constructs that lie dormant and sees Necron markings on the walls.
Unfortunately, Titus doesn’t get to fight any Necrons, although it’s not hard to imagine how well that fight would have gone, as the Necrons are practically unkillable, their ability to self-heal and resurrect themselves ensuring that they won’t be down for long. Instead, Titus deals with a host of other enemies, with the Necrons sitting patiently in the background.Fans have even spotted what is almost certainly a Canoptek Tomb Stalker, something that Titus really doesn’t want to mess with.

Naturally, this has led to much speculation about whether the Necrons will be appearing inSpace Marine 2in any villainous capacity or whether this was merely a tease for a future entry.
The Necrons are a seemingly endless and undying species that have been dormant for 60 million years and now want to reclaim the galaxy for themselves. They destroy everything that has enjoyed it while they slept. They would certainly be a formidable foe and, much like anothermissed opportunity inSpace Marine 2, would serve as a great villain for Titus to face.

The Necrons Could Be Added As Free DLC
Space Marine 2’s Roadmap Teases New Enemies
It is possible that the Necrons could be introduced as free DLC, potentially as a new enemy for players to face during Operations missions. TheWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2roadmapdetails a whole host of new features heading to the game across its first few Seasons, and one of those features is new enemies. Specifically, Seasons 2, 3, and 4 all mention that they will add a new enemy, although little detail has been given about what that could entail.
Saber Interactive has not yet clarified what the “New Enemy” portion of the roadmap entails, nor what any of the new content coming toSpace Marine 2could be. While it has been somewhat transparent in sharing the initial roadmap, it is keeping a lot of the exciting new content a secret, so fans can still be surprised when it launches across 2024 and 2025.

Notably, each of these Seasons is also introducing a new mission or mode for players to enjoy. Seasons 2 and 3 are adding new PvE, or Operations, missions toSpace Marine 2, whereas Season 4 is adding the much-anticipated Horde Mode.
There is absolutely a chance that one of these new enemies could be the Necrons, and they could feature in one or several Operations missions and may even appear in the Horde Mode. It’s not hard to imagine another squad of Space Marines heading to the Necron Tomb World only to uncover something they should have left dormant.
Who Is Leandros In Space Marine 2 & Why Does Everyone Hate Him?
The appearance of Leandros in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has provoked apparently boundless hatred from fans of the series. But who is he really?
However, it is also more likely that these new enemies being added per Season are merely more elite enemy types for the Chaos and Tyranid forces. While it is possible that Saber Interactive could be secretly adding entire new factions,it’s also reasonable to assume that they are being saved for future entries. After all, there are otherfactionsSpace Marine 2is hidingthat are also likely being saved for a sequel.
The Necrons Could Be The Main Villain Of Space Marine 3
They Could Be Saved For The Next Mainline Entry
While the Necrons could definitely be added toWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2as some form of update or story-based DLC,it’s also likely that Saber Interactive was merely teasing the Necron’s arrival in the next entry in the series. Considering just how extremely positive theSpace Marine 2reviewswere, there is a good chance that a sequel will be greenlit as soon as possible.
With the40Kuniverse being packed with so much untapped lore, there would be plenty of directions for Titus' next adventure to take. Naturally, one of these could be exploring the rising Necron empire and the threat it poses to humanity and the Emperor.
While the Necrons have been fairly well documented in extended40Kmedia and have even appeared in other video games, includingDawn of War Dark Crusade, seeing them brought to life in the way only theSpace Marineseries is capable of would be incredible. As a result, dedicating an entire game to them would be a smart move, especially as there is so much fascinating Necron lore to explore.
It’s worth noting thatWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3has not yet been announced. Additionally, there was a 13-year gap between the first and second games, and while it’s likely the gap between the second and third won’t be as long, fans may have to wait a while for the third game to be announced.
It is also possible that their presence inSpace Marine 2was just a fun reference for fans and nothing more. However, that line of thinking is not as fun as speculating wildly that they’ll turn up in a future entry in some capacity.
TheWarhammer 40,000universe is rich with warring factions and intriguing tales to tell, and considering just how long the Necrons have been around, there is an almost infinite amount of directions Saber Interactive could take when exploring them in a futureSpace Marinegame.
