Warning: Massive spoilers ahead forBad Monkeyseason 1, episode 10, “We’re in the Memory-Making Business.“DespiteBad Monkeyseason 1 adapting the entirety of Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 book of the same name, the Apple TV+ crime comedy ended its inaugural run in a way that perfectly allows Vince Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy to return for another batch of episodes. AlthoughBad Monkeyseason 1’s endingmarks the point of its titular source material being exhausted, the cliffhangers strongly suggest thatshowrunner Bill Lawrence has big plans for the show’s future. However, one specific part of the finale is arguably the biggest piece of evidence for this.
Vaughn doesn’t exactly play against type as the leader ofBad Monkeyseason 1’s cast, but he does show a rarely-glimpsed side of his acting abilities. It would be a huge shame if the season 1 finale was the last time Vaughn played Yancy, but that’s now very unlikely to be the case. AlthoughBad Monkeyseason 2 hasn’t yet been greenlit by Apple TV+, Lawrence’s track record with successful shows likeTed LassoandShrinkingsuggestsVaughn will be able to return to his character. Season 1’s thrilling conclusion has taken several steps to make this more likely.

Hiaasen’s Razor Girl is the only other book to feature Andrew Yancy
Most of the main characters depart inBad Monkeyseason 1, episode 10, “We’re in the Memory-Making Business.” They exit for various reasons, and some could even return. Interestingly, these speculative comebacks would make more sense if they didn’t happen inBad Monkeyseason 2. Instead, a new set of supporting characters to appear alongside Yancy is far more likely. This way, Lawrence can follow through on his plan to adapt Hiassen’s standalone sequel toBad Monkey(viaMSN).Razor Girltakes place afterBad Monkeybut otherwise has very little to do with the story that preceded it.
“The first season isBad Monkey, which Carl wrote with a beginning, middle, and end. But Carl was my favorite author as a kid, and he wrote a sequel toBad MonkeycalledRazor Girl, that we also have.” - Bill Lawrence,Bad Monkeyshowrunner.

“We’re in the Memory-Making Business” gives Yancy almost no time to process the events ofBad Monkeyseason 1, as John Oritz’s Rogelio teases the next case for Vince Vaugh’s character to obsess over. Lawrence has coyly forced the issue, so if Apple TV+ cancels the show, and he is unable to continue events into those ofRazor Girl, his project would end on a frustratingly unsatisfying note. Therefore,Bad Monkeyseason 2 covering the events of Hiaasen’s 2016 follow-up is looking like it might be the plan, as it only really needs Yancy and perhaps Rogelio from season 1.
Obviously, deadBad Monkeycharacters like Gracie can’t come back in the future, nor can Nick or Eve Stripling. Even most of the surviving characters won’t be needed if Lawrence plans on adaptingRazor Girlnext. On the other hand, those who made it to the finale, like Rosa and Neville, could easily return thanks to the showrunner’s initial pitch to Apple TV+. Despite only having two books to work with,Bill Lawrence has confirmed his plan has always been to end the show afterBad Monkeyseason 3(viaDecider).
What Monkey Plays Driggs In Bad Monkey & Where You’ve Seen Her Before (Was She Really In POTC?)
Driggs' actor in Bad Monkey had been in the industry for a long time, making one character’s claim about the capuchin Johnny Depp’s co-star viable.
Despite Lawrence’s concerns that a third season would mean he’d have to “make up” the third section of his three-part arc, he seems excited about the possibility of achieving his goal. If Apple TV+ allows him to realize this vision, then season 1’s survivors could easily all come back for the saga’s conclusion. In fact, Rosa’s suggestion that she will reunite with Yancy one day pretty much promises that it’ll happen. So,Bad Monkeyseason 3 could be exciting for being an original story, as well as including familiar faces.
