The division, which consists of three to four people,is continually working on new ideas regarding the DualSenseand while not all of them will feature inAstro Bot, there will be some exciting new mechanics. While specifics were not mentioned, Doucet did touch on one new interesting feature.

Without giving too much away, Doucet stated that one of the new forms of interaction will see players moving Astro Bot towards a role, prompting the character to hold up his hand and feel the terrain. As he moves along it,the DualSense will rumble differently depending on whether the surface is smoother or bumpy. With this mechanic, players will be able to detect hidden doors and caves that may be obscured by the environment, providing them with an effective use of the haptic feedback.

While he may be one of PlayStation’s more recent mascots,Astro has quickly become synonymous with the PlayStation 5 thanks to the excellentAstro’s Playroom, a free game that came bundled with the console which was used tohighlight the various uses of the DualSense. Within the titular playroom, Team Asobi and Japan Studio implemented various mini-games to highlight elements like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. It managed to impress consumers so much thatSony leaned further into Astroas a character, granting him another standalone game after his VR-exclusive debut inAstro Bot: Rescue Mission.

Given that thePlayStation 5doesn’t have any other major AAA single-player releases in 2024 (aside fromSilent Hill 2), fans are eagerly awaitedAstro Bot.The game will see the titular character embarking on a quest around six galaxies and 80 levelsas the little hero attempts to track down his lost crew. Early trailers have been positively received and players can’t wait to get their hands on the gamewhen it arrives on September 6.
