Today’s Connections Category Hints
JULY 23 #407
Before we start giving you answers, we have some hints for you first. The categories today have some overlap so having some hints might get you down the right path without seeing any answers.
If you need an extra nudge, we have that covered too. Here are the category names for today, which should help eliminate more options.

QUACK
SHAM
It is quite sad when a word inConnectionsis being a CHARLATAN and now there’s a whole category full of them. The main trick with this one is PEACOCK and SHOWBOAT might have fit in here, as there’s afair amount of crossover between show-offs and impostors. However, focusing on those differences is important with these two categories today.
SOUND
WORD
The main fraud that might make its way into this category is TWEET and if you are anything like me, you likely did not clock the names minus a letter category until near the end - if ever. WORD, after all, seems quite different from NOISE, PEEP, and SOUNDand TWEET fits in quite nicely. However, WORD is the correct answer for this category today, so don’t let that little bird trick you.

The Spelling Bee puzzles created as a New York Times game build a streak of correct answers to get you more points, but they can be hard to keep.
PEACOCK
SHOWBOAT
With PORK in the mix, HAM and HOT DOG were very much red herrings, luckily we couldn’t find that fourth word which hinted that it’s not a category. PEACOCK and SHOWBOAT were quite easy to put together, but thinking about the foodie words a little differently was harder. Especially with the last category messing with my head a bit.
SPEED
TWEET
This was a tricky category but looking at it now it’s extremely difficult to get the theme song out of my head. Flashbacks of watching cartoons with my family were definitely playing through my head as I put this together. It does make today’s categories a bit harder to guess as it is so specific andthere are so many words that could be elsewhere, but at least it hits you with nostalgia on the way out.
Other Games Like Connections
There are many other word-based games out there for you to try. Winding down, maybe with a cartoon in the background, will give you a bit of challenging relaxation. While it sounds like a misnomer, it certainly works for us.
