When I started my self-improvement journey in 2019, a handful of apps made it easier to track habits like going to the gym. They also helped keep me accountable. If you’re looking to make small, regular tweaks in your day-to-day life, these apps will help.
1Habitica: Best for Gamification
One of the best ways to keep up with a habit is to realize that life is like a video game that you play for real. And since Habitica gamifies the habit-tracking experience, it’s one of the best apps to use to make lasting changes.
Habitica lets you set up a positive habit tracker (like walking for 10,000 steps per day) or a negative one (like qutting the afternoon coffee). You can change the category via tags and set a difficulty level.
Using Habitica, you can reset the counter on any of your habits. You can also add notes that you think will be useful to record. At the top of the home screen, you’ll see bars for health and experience—along with your gaming level. The level progresses as you achieve objectives.
Once you’ve built up enough points, you can buy different things for your avatar. It’s one of manywellness apps that turn self-care into a game.

You can use Habitica for free, but the app also has optional subscriptions. If you want to support the project, pricing is as follows:

2Super Habit: Best for iOS Users
If you’re looking for a less gamified version of Habitica, I recommend checking out this habit tracker instead. You can enter your habit name and choose how many days per week you’d like to complete it. For example, I aim to work out four times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday).
When using this habit tracker, you can also pick a start date. You can also choose how many reminders you want to see and decide on which day you want your calendar week to begin.
For additional customization, you can customize the color of your habit tracker. To get a full overview of your history, you can see your progress for the current month and year. Most in-app features are free, but you can upgrade to a paid subscription or get a lifetime purchase for unlimited habits.

3Habit Tracker: Best for User-Friendliness
Davetech’s Habit Tracker app has a simplified user interface with several templates, such as breathwork, reading books, eating vegetables, and reviewing your day. Within each of these, you may choose specific goal periods and whether it’s one you want to build or quit.
Habit Tracker lets you change the icon for each of your habits, allowing you to navigate them more easily. Moreover, you can customize the chart type and choose whether it’s relevant for the morning, afternoon, or evening.
Some of the “quit” habit templates available include drinking less alcohol, complaining less, and not spending as much time on video games. You can create your own habits if you don’t want to use any of the templates.
Habit Tracker allows you to look at the status of your habits based on whether you met them or not. You can also track how you feel, which can help you find patterns when you keep up with or skip your habits.
