“It’s one of those things where you’re really blinded by bluff.”

Screen Rant: It’s been two years since season 1 first aired, so how does it feel to be back? What are you each most excited about going into season 2?

Sonia Mena: I’m just excited about everyone’s performance. We get to see so much more of everyone’s characters this season and the cast just really kills it. I’m just excited for people to come on the journey and experience it. I hope it’s fun. We had a lot of fun making it, so I hope you have fun watching it.

Sonia Mena in Tell Me Lies Season 2.

Alicia Crowder: I’m so excited for all of the reveals and all of the twists. I think that that’s a thing about the show that people really love, and we really just doubled down this season. We just kept them coming. I’m just excited about that and to see everyone’s predictions and how they feel about the different things that happen.

Sonia, we have to talk about what happened with Pippa at the end of last season. She was falsely accused of sending the letter and it really damaged her relationship with Wrigley. How would you describe their relationship going forward?

Tell Me Lies Hulu TV Series Poster

Sonia Mena: They don’t really have one at all in the beginning of the season. They haven’t spoken. All of his teammates are bullying the hell out of me. He’s not doing anything about it. It’s pretty rough, and it’s fun to see what happens with them over the season because there’s not much lower you can go. Unless you’re Stephen, in which case, there’s a lot lower you can go. But when it comes to us, there’s nothing there. It’s just sad.

Alicia, as far as the college timeline goes, we end season 1 with Stephen and Diana getting back together. Despite everything, why do you feel she keeps gravitating towards him?

Alicia Crowder: I had to figure that out too. I think that he is genuinely the smartest person that she knows, and I think that she really values that and values how they’re really on the same level academically and emotionally, too, as far as she knows. I think that she also thinks that it’s one of those classic things that she can fix him.

There are places where he could improve, and I think that Diana is really like, “We have the raw materials. We can make something good out of this.” And I think she also genuinely loves him and really cares about him and thinks that they’re a great couple and that they’re going to lead a very successful life together. It’s one of those things where you’re really blinded by bluff.

Pippa Will Struggle To Keep Things Together In Tell Me Lies Season 2

“She has some really intense things happen to her at the beginning of the season that really just derail her whole life.”

Going off of that, another huge shock in the season finale is that Stephen winds up with Lydia. When did you find out about that twist?

Alicia Crowder: We’ve probably known about that for a little while, but it’s still interesting seeing how they get together. That still really isn’t explicitly revealed this season, but seeing the small interactions and scenes that they have together is really interesting. I think that, by the end, Diana’s probably just happy that he’s not her problem anymore.

Sonia, Pippa explored her sexuality last season. Is that something that we’ll continue to see in season 2?

Sonia Mena: Yes and no. I think Pippa started to have this moment of curiosity, and she has some really intense things happen to her at the beginning of the season that really just derail her whole life. For most of the season, she’s really just trying to survive and just trying to get through it. We get to see her later in life and see that she has made it right, that she’s ostensibly okay, but mostly, we’re just watching her attempt to keep it all together, and it’s really hard for her. So we don’t get to see as much of her running around. A little bit. Flickers here and there.

Do you feel that Pippa, Lucy, and Bree are true friends, or is their relationship due to circumstance?

Sonia Mena: I think both can be true. How do they become friends? They all lived with each other/across the hall from each other and there are definitely a lot of flaws and complicated, maybe not very good, aspects of their relationship, but we also see moments of them trying to take care of each other, trying to show up for each other, trying to understand each other and maybe not always doing the best job at that. But there is definitely a depth to it, even if it’s complicated and toxic sometimes—a lot of the time.
