Warning! Contains spoilers for Sunny’s episodes 1 and 2.
Summary
In its first two episodes, Apple TV+‘sSunnynot only sets up a gripping murder mystery but also prompts a viewer to ponder over some intriguing questions surrounding A.I. Even though Apple TV+ is the home for a long list of weird but compellingsci-fi shows likeSeverance,Sugar,Silo, andDark Matter,Sunnyranks among the streamer’s quirkiest offerings. On paper, its combination of serious themes surrounding grief and the threat of A.I. with dark comedy seems absurd.
However, the brilliance with which the show combines all of its genres to create the perfect balance between laughable moments and poignant reflections on technophobia is what sets it apart. With Rashida Jones’ Suzie as its lead alongside a cutesy but terrifyingly sentient robot, the show never leaves a dull moment with its black humor and keeps viewers at the edge of their seats with its well-thought-out mysteries. Since a lot happens inSunnyepisodes 1 and 2, a recap of all the major events may be necessary.
