Summary

The power of the dark side rises again in this originalStar Wars-inspired Sith cosplay. The Sith have had a resurgence in the franchise of late. Not only did Palpatine return inStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but morerecent projects likeStar Wars: The Acolytehave made it a point to highlight the dark side of the Force and those who wield it, introducing viewers to new characters likeThe Stranger, a.k.a. Qimir, and even bringing legendary characters likeDarth Plagueisinto live-action for the first time.

Those who utilize the dark side are undoubtedly fascinating, and this cosplay by cosplayer Lauren (@jokers_jester_) perfectly captures why. Photographed by Ger McGuinness (@ger_mcguinness_photography), this cosplay of what appears to be an original Sith character inspired by the Nightsisters of Dathomir shows off the intensity of the Sith – the glowing scarlet eyes, the intimidating glare, the brilliantred lightsaber, and the arrogance that accompanies the dark side.

The facial tattoos and fiery red hair complete the look.Clearly, there’s an appetite forStar Warsto introduce more Sith characters – perhaps more female Sith characters, especially– and the franchise has never been in a better position to do so.

Star Wars: The 30 Most Powerful Sith

The corruptive dark side of the Force in the Star Wars galaxy brought forth some of the most powerful Sith Lords in both canon and Legends.

Star Wars Needs To Explore The Mysteries Of The Dark Side

Except for Anakin Skywalker, the Sith were the villains, the Jedi were the heroes, and nuanced portrayals of the Sith were relegated to comics and novels rather than being depicted on screen. Now, however, with the advent of Disney+, those who wield the dark side have become much more complex.Darth Tyranus' story inStar Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Darth Maul’s arc inStar Wars: The Clone WarsandStar Wars Rebels, and Qimir’s seductive tactics inThe Acolytehave changed everything – not to mention all the dark side characters who aren’tgenuine Sith Lordslike Kylo Ren, Ventress, and the Inquisitors.

Though Palpatine’s resurrection inStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkermay have turned people off the idea of more Sith-related stories, the dark side and the Sith religion have so much narrative potential. Now thatStar Warsis free from the Skywalker saga – as much as it will ever be, anyway –the franchise has a chance to dig deeper into its lore and history, and the Sith should be a priority, especially now that a character as compelling and significant as Darth Plagueis has come into play. As this cosplay proves, audiences are hungry for more Sith characters inStar Wars.
