Warning: This article contains spoilers for Severance season 1.
Summary
Severanceseason 2’s first teaser trailer has been released, and it confirms my worst fears about the fates of Mark and his friends. More than two years afterSeveranceseason 1’s cliffhangerending, theApple TV+ sci-fi showhas finally released a trailer for the second season.Severanceseason 2’s release datehas also been confirmed. Although much has yet to be revealed about where the show goes next, the first teaser offers some important clues about what will happen to Mark and the rest of the Macrodata Refinement department.
The first season ofSeveranceended on a massive cliffhanger after Milchick got to Dylan and deactivated the overtime contingence just as Mark, Helly, and Irwing were beginning to understand who they were and what was at stake. One of my favorite TV episodes of recent years, “The We We Are” raised the stakes for the series and made me very excited about season 2. Despite the long wait for this cliffhanger to be resolved,I cannot wait to see how the outies of Mark, Helly, and Irwing will react to the things their innies did.

Severance Season 2’s Trailer All But Confirms Mark & The Others Will Go Back To Lumon
The MDR employees are back at the office.
Even though Innie Mark got to tell his sister that he and his colleagues were prisoners at Lumon,I feared that Adam Scott’s character was going to return to the office eventually. This has been confirmed by theSeveranceseason 2 trailer, which sees the entire MDR team back at the office. It is unclear how much time will have passed since the season 1 finale by the time Mark and the others return to Lumon’s Severed Floor. It is also unclear whether their innies will remember their experiences in the outside world.
Mark’s only hope of finding out what happened to Gemma and how she can still be alive may be returning to Lumon (…)

A popularSeveranceseason 2 theoryis that the Lumon will reset the innies of Mark, Helly, Dylan, and Irwing so that they all forget the things they have discovered. Although this would be a bit anticlimactic considering season 1 was about them slowly realizing the truth about their jobs, it could be an interesting way of “rebooting” the series and reinventing the characters for the new season. If Mark and the other innies do remember what they experienced in the outside world, their returns to Lumon will be even more fun to watch.
What Will Bring Mark Back To Lumon Industries In Severance Season 2?
Mark may have understood what his innie meant by “she’s alive.”
Helly R.’s return to Lumon is not that surprising considering that her outie is Helena Eagan, daughter of Lumon Industries CEO and creator of the severance chip Jame Eagan. Helena chose to go through the severance process to become the face of the company’s campaign to bring this technology into the world. As such, she will most likely be very angry at what her innie did at the speech and will return to work normally once the PR disaster is dealt with. Mark S.’s return, however, is more complicated to understand.
Severance Cast & Character Guide
Apple TV+’s thriller Severance adds a whole new meaning to work-life balance. Here’s a breakdown of the various cast members and their characters.
On the one hand, Mark should not want to go back to the Lumon Industries building once his sister tells him what she learned from Innie Mark. On the other hand, Devon may have understood what Innie Mark was trying to say when he screamed“She is alive.”If Mark realizes that his wife was alive this whole time and that his innie recognized her from work, he will have enough reasons to go back. Mark’s only hope of finding out what happened to Gemma and how she can still be alive may be returning to Lumon inSeveranceseason 2.
