ThePokémon Trading Card Gamewill introduce a new kind of promo card next year, which won’t be legal to use in games but should still be a fun collectible for some players. In addition to selling individual booster packs, thePokémon TCGalso sells many of its products in special boxed products. These collections usually come with promotional pieces like jumbo-sized cards, posters, or figures, along with the occasional exclusive promo card.

In 2025, thePokémon TCGwill introduce a new kind of promotional item to its boxed collections. According to thePokémon TCGnews sitePokeBeach, thePokémon TCGwill release a Special Collection for the upcomingJourney Togetherset that includes jumbo-sized lenticular cards.Lenticular cards use a special material that causes the image to changedepending on what angle you view it, allowing the image to “move” or switch between characters. ThePokémon TCGhas only released one lenticular card in its history - a Deoxys card that was used to promote theDestiny Deoxysmovie. The new Special Collection will be released on April 11th.

Our Take: More Cool Stuff, Less Exclusive Promo Cards

We’d Rather See Unique Promo Materials Rather Than Exclusive Promo Cards

As aPokémon TCGcollector, one of my recurring frustrations about these Special Collections is that they often contain exclusive premium cards. While players can pick these cards up on the secondary market,I still don’t like the idea of cards being “locked” in a box that costs $20 or more.

I’d much rather have cool promo materials like lenticular cards and acrylic standees, which can be used as a fun flair for collection displays. I also like that thePokémon TCGis getting more inventive with their boxes, which might help provide more incentive to purchase them in the future.
