Summary

Star Wars: The Acolyteshowrunner Leslye Headland discusses whether Mae and Osha may be a Force dyad. The concept was first explained inThe Rise of Skywalkerwhen Rey and Ben Solo were revealed to be a Force dyad, which addressed their deep connection to each other through the Force. The extensive power and rarity of the dyad raised many questions, including whether such a bond would ever appear in another story at an earlier or later point in theStar Warscanon timeline.

In an interview withCollider, Headland shared her thoughts on the Force dyad inThe Rise of Skywalkerand whether this connection also applied to Mae and Osha. The Acolytenever explicitly stated that Mae and Osha are a dyad, although their unique link through the Force is reminiscent of what was established about the dyad inThe Rise of Skywalker. There are key differences, though, such as Mae and Osha being one consciousness split into two beings, which was not the case with Rey and Ben Solo. Check out Headland’s comments below:

Very interesting. I talked to Pablo a lot about it, and we started to talk about whether or not we wanted to tease it or whether or not we wanted to confirm it. I hope that people end with just not really knowing. I do think it’s something worth exploring if we get to continue telling the story, but I also felt strongly that I shouldn’t namedrop Force Dyad, because it felt a little inside baseball for a regular viewer. Already, we were trying to get them on board with the Vergence [laughs], so it was like, to add another piece of vocabulary that may not necessarily translate…

Here’s what I’ll say. I think that there’s a world where Sol just doesn’t have the vocabulary or information to express what he’s looking at. He may have misread what he saw. After everything he’s done, I’m not sure he’s a reliable narrator at this point, you know? So I was interested in keeping it vague enough that you could explore it on your own. Again, this is the way I felt.

It Could Be Part Of The Upcoming Films

InThe Rise of Skywalker, Darth Sidious said thatthe Force dyad is a power that had not been seen for generations. If Sidious was correct, this means that a dyad would likely only appear in a story that takes place many generations beforeThe Rise of Skywalkeror in a story that takes place after Rey defeats Sidious. While Ben Solo died inThe Rise of Skywalker, Rey’s dyad with him could continue in herNew Jedi Ordermovie through his Force ghost, or Rey could possibly train or face a new dyad.

Daisy Ridley is reprising her role as Rey in theNew Jedi Ordermovie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

James Mangold’sDawn of the Jedimovieis another upcoming story that could feature a dyad. The origin story of the Jedi Order will take place 25,000 years before the events ofThe Phantom Menace, which would work with Sidious saying the dyad had not been seen for many generations, and could explain whythe unique bond was not something widely known even by experienced Force users. The dyad might even tie into how the first Jedi discovered and came to understand the Force.

IfThe Acolytegets a season 2, Headland could change her mind and confirm Mae and Osha to be a Force dyad, or even reveal another two characters to be a dyad. While it would be satisfying to know whether it applies to Mae and Osha for the sake of wider lore, never confirming it will likely be better forThe Acolyte, as it will allow the series to continue prioritizing its characters without limiting their narrative potential. The Force dyad may never be seen on screen again, making Rey and Ben Solo’s bond all the more distinctive.
