It’s been 10 years since22 Jump Streetpremiered, and now might be the perfect time to make23 Jump Street.21 Jump Streetis a reboot of the 1980s police proceduralwhich follows two rookie police officers who go undercover at a high school to investigate a drug operation after one of the students suffers a drug overdose. TheJump Streetmovies were not only a hit with audiences and critics but were also successful at the box office, proving that there was still an audience for buddy cop movies.
Despite21 Jump Streetand22 Jump Streetbeing some ofChanning Tatum’s best comedy movies, the third installment in the franchise did not make it past the development stage. The popularity of the franchise has raised the question about why23 Jump Streethasn’t been made, especially because the two main characters from the21 Jump Streetcastseem eager to continue the franchise. Even though it’s been a decade since theJump Streetsequel was released, this year might be the best time for the continuation of the franchise.

A 23 Jump Street Script Already Exists - Why Hasn’t The Movie Been Made
23 Jump Street Wasn’t Made Because Of Bureaucracy

What 23 Jump Street Could Be About
23 Jump Street Was Supposed To Be A Crossover With Men In Black
The22 Jump Streetend credits teased possible sequel ideas, including23 Jump Street:Medical Schooland24 Jump Street: Foreign Exchange Students. Some of these are interesting and come across as fun concepts, but given the context, it’s difficult to take any of them seriously. However, there is still some evidence of what a potential23 Jump Streetmovie might look like.
On July 09, 2025, Sony Pictures was hacked by a group called The Guardians of Peace. The notorious Sony hack revealed several confidential pieces of information about the production company, including the script for23 Jump Street. According to the script, which was written by Rodney Rothman,23 Jump Streetwas penned as a crossover withMen in Blackand was titledMIB23. The collaboration betweenJump StreetandMen in Blackwas agreat idea because it would have given both franchises a fresh plot.

TheMiBcrossover would provide an opportunity for theJump Streetmovies to be able to venture into story arcs that wouldn’t be restricted by the characters’ ages. The collaboration between the franchises would have also worked well forMiBbecause the franchise needed to gain some positive reviews, especially becauseMen in BlackInternationalwas not popular with critics. What The Cast Has Said About 23 Jump Street
Channing Tatum Remains Optimistic
It’s been over a decade since22 Jump Streethit theaters, which means it’s been just as long since23Jump Streetwas first teased. However, the popularity of the buddy-cop comedy duology ensures that there’s still plenty of demand for Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s franchise to be spun out into a trilogy (especially if the long-teasedMen In Blackcrossover materializes). In the years since both Hill and Tatum have been asked in interviews about the possibility of23Jump Streetactually happening. While Hill has remained relatively silent, the same can’t be said for Channing Tatum.
In June 2024, Channing Tatum gave some surprisingly optimistic insight into the progress of23 Jump Street, despite the fact that the project has officially been put on hold.Speaking tocomicbook.com,Channing Tatum revealed that not only did a script for23 Jump Streetexist, but that it was an incredibly solid third outing for his and Hill’s hapless duo of Jenko and Schmidt. While he unfortunately didn’t disclose any specifics, Tatum explained “there is a [23 Jump Street] project that was written and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.”
This tease only served to heighten the hopes of many fans that23 Jump Streetwould materialize, and re-raised questions over why it hasn’t already. Fortunately,Tatum was able to somewhat clarify what’s been holding up the22 Jump Streetsequel:
“It’s just a lot of bureaucracy, kind of above the line stuff. It’s really hard to get it made and we’ve been trying to get it done.”
While this is disappointing in some ways, as is always the case when behind-the-scenes corporate concerns prevent a long-awaited movie sequel from materializing, the fact that Tatum is still passionate about23 Jump Streetseeing the light of day even after a decade gives his comments a hopeful note too. This optimism was further increased when Tatum revealed that his co-star, Jonah Hill, was also still keen for a22 Jump Street Sequel:
“You know what, I’m going to put some good juju out there and I’m going to say I would love to see23 Jump Street. I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah I know wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again.”
While Channing Tatum’s comments on23Jump Streetare still quite vague, and far from confirmation that the long-awaited third installment in the modernJump Streetfranchise will arrive, they’re far from disappointing. This is especially true given how recent his comments are, and the fact that both he and Jonah Hill are still interested in23 Jump Streetdespite it being a decade since the arrival of22 Jump Street.
The time passing could work in a potential22 Jump Streetsequel’s favor too, since Jenko and Schmidt would have aged a decade just like the stars. If they haven’t lost any of their childish ineptitude, their on-screen antics will be even funnier if they’re portrayed as older (but not at all wiser) cops.
