Captain America: Brave New World Cast & Marvel Character Guide
Sam Wilson’s big-screen debut as the MCU’s Captain America will bring back several familiar faces, while also introducing new and exciting characters.
Why The Serpent Society Is Perfect For The MCU
The Serpent Society was first introduced in 1985’s “Captain America” #310 comic book as an evolution of the Serpent Squad. The group operates as a cohort of hired guns typically in service of such villainous figures as Kingpin and HYDRA, something which matches up with Esposito’s armed-to-the-teeth character in theCaptain America: Brave New Worldtrailer. The team typically features characters with snakelike abilities, making them both off-the-wall yet grounded villains perfect for the MCU.
Sam Wilson’s Captain America faced a newer iteration of the Serpent Society in Marvel Comics, calling themselves Serpent Solutions.

The Serpent Society is unlikely to pose as much of a threat to Captain America as either Red Hulk or the Leader. Nevertheless, they have the potential to be amongthe MCU’s most charismatic and sympathetic villains,as the group are formed in a way that operates similar to a labor union, watching each other’s backs as they pick up new contracts and opportunities. It also grants an opportunity for theMCU to further its mutant repertoireas Asp, who can generate paralytic energy, is herself a mutant.
Serpent Society members Cottonmouth, Diamondback, and Bushmaster all appeared in the now-canonLuke Cageseries - though it is unclear whether these are supposed to be the same characters from Marvel Comics or coincidental namesakes.
Debuting the Serpent Society at this point is also perfectly timed. Rumors suggested that the group will be hired by Valentina Allegra De Fontaine, who also pulls the strings behind the Thunderbolts, while Kingpin is an obvious client for the mercenary team to work with when he returns inDaredevil: Born Again. As for what they will be up to inCaptain America: Brave New World, recent confirmation that adamantium will play a central role in the movie suggests that their contract will have something to do with acquiring this coveted material for clandestine clients.
