Magic: The Gatheringhas revealed the first details of its upcoming Spider-Man set. One of many collaborations recently announced by Wizards of the Coast, following the high-profileMTGandFinal Fantasycrossover. This next upcoming set, simply entitledMarvel’s Spider-Man, includes a variety of different cards featuring the heroes, villains, sidekicks, and more from the web-slinging superhero’s particular corner of the Marvel universe.
With several new cards (includinga few new commanders), a release date, format legality, and several other aspects of theSpider-Manset now confirmed, fans have a lot to look forward to. Here’s everything you need to know about theMagic: The GatheringSpider-Manset, due out later this year.
When MTG’s Spider-Man Set Releases
Spidey Swinging Onto Shelves Soon
TheMarvel’s Spider-Manset forMagic: The Gatheringis set for release on June 07, 2025. That puts it right in line with this year’s MagicCon, which will be held in Atlanta between September 26 and September 29. It’ll be released between theEdge of Eternitiesset in August, andtheAvatar: The Last Airbenderset, which is expected to be released in Q4 of this year.

As these things go, the boosters, boxes, prerelease packs, and bundles are pretty standard. However,the Scene Box is a bit of a special case. Six of the borderless cards from this set can be arranged together to make a full image of Spidey simultaneously dodging Doc Ock, Venom, and the Green Goblin. The Scene Box gives you all six of those cards (with a traditional foil pattern) in one handy bundle, plus an easel to display them on. It also includes six art cards and a handful of Play Boosters to build out your collection.

Welcome Decks are a familiar concept to someMTGplayers, although somewhat of a newly-revived one. These special sets are designed fornew players ofMagic: The Gathering.Each one includes everything you need to start your first game, with a full precon deck, a pair of reference cards to explain the rules, and a deck box to store it all in. These are typically only available at your local game store during new player events, so keep an eye onWOTC’s store locatorto find an event near you.

To date,six cards have been revealed for theMarvel’s Spider-ManMTGset. These are the same six featured in the Scene Box listed above; in their borderless versions, these cards can be arranged to form a single, cohesive scene. The table below includes all six cards, along with what they can do.

Of particular interest are the Venom, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and Spider-Man cards;as Legendary Creatures,these four are all Commander-legal. While there are no precon decks for them, savvy players can build their own based on the characters' abilities.

What Cards Are Allowed In What Formats?
The cards available in theMarvel’s Spider-Manset forMagic: The Gatheringtechnically fall intothree different expansions: SPM, SPE, and MAR. Each expansion differs in terms of legality; some can only be played in certain formats, others only for a limited amount of time. You can tell which card falls into which expansion by the symbol printed on the type line - for example, the spider emblem printed alongside the words “Legendary Creature” on the cards pictured above. SPM is represented by an image of Spider-Man’s mask, SPE by the spider icon, and MAR by the Marvel logo.
Magic: The Gathering December 2024 Bans- Which MTG Cards Are Banned & Unbanned Now
Wizards of the Coast released its recent MTG banned card list update, which includes one special card that went unbanned for over a year.
Cards in the SPM are Standard-legal; that means they can be played in any game using the Standard format, and will likely remain legal for a period of two to three years. The SPE and MAR sets are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage formats as well; any reprinted cards are, of course, still legal in the formats they were last legal in. Any cards from SPM or MAR in sealed Play Boosters are also legal inMarvel’s Spider-ManDraft and Sealedmatches.
