The success of Muschietti’sItduology has led to its expansion with a prequel TV show titledWelcome to Derry, produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti.
Muschietti’sItchanged the time settings of King’s novel to 1989 and 2016, with the first movie following the Losers Club when they were kids and came across It and its many shapes for the first time, mainly the dancing clown Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård).ItChapter Tworeunited with the now-adult Losers 27 years after the first movie and saw the creature’s defeat.Welcome to Derrywill go back to the 1960sto explore another chapter inDerry’s cursed history, and thanks to this, it will cover one of the novel’s most disturbing scenes.

It: Welcome To Derry Will Feature The Black Spot Scene From Stephen King’s Interlude
The Black Spot Wasn’t Included In Andy Muschietti’s It Movies
Stephen King’sItfollows the Losers’ first encounters with Pennywise in 1958 and their return to Derry in 1985 now as adults, but it mentions some of the past tragedies caused by It. The most notable one is the Black Spot tragedy, shared by Mike’s father, Will Hanlon, who went through it.The flashback to the events of the Black Spot can be found in the novel’s second interlude, and it takes readers decades back to Will Hanlon’s time in the Air Force.
The Black Spot was burned down by a white supremacist group known as the Maine Legion of White Decency.

Will and his comrades opened a nightclub called The Black Spot, mostly aimed at Black peopleso they could have a safe place where they could enjoy the night. Unfortunately, one night, The Black Spot was burned down by a white supremacist group known as the Maine Legion of White Decency, killing many people as customers were trapped inside. Among them wasThe Shining’s Dick Hallorann, who worked in the club’s kitchen but managed to escape. Mike’s father witnessed the whole thing and described the painful memories to his son in detail.
The make it even more disturbing,Will Hanlon mentioned seeing a bird that “didn’t hover” and instead “floated” with balloons tied to each wing– and at that point, readers know that’s one of It’s shapes. Muschietti’sItmovies changed The Black Spot tragedy’s time setting to 1962, and speaking toEW, Muschietticonfirmed thatWelcome to Derrywill cover this dark chapterin Derry’s history, and that Will Hanlon is one of the characters in the show, confirmed by one image showing Jovan Adepo as Mike’s father.

Why Mike’s Interludes Are So Important To Stephen King’s It
The Black Spot’s Story Is One Of The Biggest Tragedies In It
Mike Hanlon is the only one of the Losers who stays in Derry, and he becomes the town librarian. As such, he does a lot of research on the town’s dark history and finds connections between Derry’s biggest tragedies and It. This is why Mike’s interludes exist in the book, adding more context to It’s murderous sprees and Derry’s history. It is known for being a very evil and cruel entity, but The Black Spot tragedy, in particular, is especially cruel and disturbing and shows that the creature truly knew no limits in its thirst for death.
Why Pennywise Never Leaves Derry In IT (Can He?)
IT established that Pennywise terrorized the town of Derry, Maine, for centuries – but could this creature leave town, or was it stuck there?
King’sItis packed with information, all of it key to building suspense and making the reader feel the threat and fear of It’s presence, so naturally, not all of its stories could be included in the movies. The movies were focused on the Losers and their encounters with the creature as well as their efforts – individually and together – to defeat this monster, andany other chapters of Derry’s history would have been distracting. The Black Spot is an important part of Derry andIt’s stories, and it’s better to give it the time and space it needs, andWelcome to Derryis the perfect chance.
