Theofficial X (formerly Twitter) account of Netflix Animeconfirmed thatThe Summer Hikaru Died is set to stream exclusively on Netflix,and true to its name, it is scheduled to air this summer. Unfortunately, there is no exact release date, but given the series will be one of the headliners ofthis year’s Anime Japan event, fans can expect more information such as a new trailer and a release date.

Ryohei Takashita is taking charge of the anime as both the director and the series compositor, and his work onEromanga SenseiandJellyfish Can’t Swim In The Nightmakes him a great candidate. Yuichi Takahashi, the character designer ofVivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-,Blue Giantand theFLCLspinoffs, will serve as the character designer as well as the chief animation director. The anime will be produced at CYGAMES,one of the studios rumored to be animating the anticipatedKagurabachianime.
