Matthew Rosenberg: Damian is one of the best characters at DC. He’s this beautiful mix of good and evil and that war that’s constantly inside him. He’s a rebel, he’s a force of anarchy in the world, so he’s fun to play with…A lot of creatures in the animal kingdom fall into a sort of hierarchy and when you become a vampire. You respect, for the most part, the hierarchy of the vampire monarchy and the queen and the king. Damian is just one to not fall into the natural order. He’s not one to kneel, even if his genes are telling him to, he’s going to question that.

Matthew Rosenberg: There’s a very fragile peace between the humans and vampires and the vampires want humans to deal with Damian and the humans are insistent that he’s a vampire and he’s their problem. But he’s not, he’s everybody’s problem.

Rosenberg also hints that just because Damian is fighting against the vampires, doesn’t mean he’s allied with humans. The writer says thatRobin is threatening the fragile peace that the humans and vampires have established and is a real problem for both sides.

Batman’s Son Robin is Humanity and Vampire’s Worst Nightmare

DC vs. Vampiresis an out-of-continuity tale that saw vampirism upend decades of history for a new world order where the undead ruled the globe. The beloved hero Nightwing was revealed to be the Vampire King and revealed his true colors by murdering Batman right in front of the Bat-Family. Damian charged at Nightwing in anger, only to be rewarded with a bite that turned Robin into a vampire. However, while every vampire obeyed the King’s orders,Robin’s autonomy was never stripped from him, and he became one of the biggest threatsto the vampire order.

The truce between humanity and vampires is described as ‘fragile’, which is understandable given how the last series ended with Barbara Gordon taking over as the Vampire Queen. Who better to add some tension to this story than Damian, the one vampire who somehow doesn’t bend the knee to the established undead order? There’s always been a bit of unpredictability when it comes to Batman’s son, but that unpredictability could be putting the world in serious danger. If Robin does wind up plunging the world into all-out war, both humanity and vampirekind will be in trouble.

Robin Risks Upending Everything inDC vs. Vampires: World War V

Humanity needs whatever peace it can get to come up with a way of stopping the vampires for good. But Robin blindly attacking the Vampire Queen and her followers could provoke them into a war that could wind up dooming everyone. So many lives were lost during the first part of this series and that was when Damian was aiding humanity. If Robin’s going his own way, who knows what kind of chaos he’ll bring or how it will wind up harming the DCU. WhateverBatman’sson has planned, it’s surely going to make things a whole lot worse.

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1is available on August 14th from DC Comics.
