Dubbed the Apple Watch Ultra, it’s the company’s “most rugged and capable” watch ever. It’s packed with new features that make it a significant upgrade from the standard models.

1. Bigger, Brighter Display
The Apple Watch Ultra is designed to function in extreme environments, which is why it has a 49mm titanium case with a flat sapphire front crystal and a Retina display that can deliver up to2,000 nits of brightness.
This makes the Apple Watch Ultra twice as bright as the standard models and easier to read in harsh sunlight. The new display is large enough to show a total of six Workout metrics.
2. Better Battery Life
The new Apple Watch Ultra will last up to 36 hours on a single charge. This is a huge upgrade over the Apple Watch Series 8, which has a battery life of up to 18 hours on a single charge.
And with the low-power settings enabled, you may get up to a whopping 60 hours of usage with the Apple Watch Ultra. According toApple, the extended battery life will allow people to “complete a long-course triathlon, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and full marathon at 26.2 miles.”
3. The Action Button
The Apple Watch Ultra features an all-new Action button that you can customize to transition between workout modes or use to mark segments.
The new bright-orange colored button has a range of other functions as well. For example, if you ever find yourself in an emergency, you can use the Action button to sound an 86-decibel siren which will alert people in your vicinity.
By pressing the Action button, users can easily mark their location on the Apple Watch Ultra and even view Backtrack to retrace their steps.
4. Improved Sound Quality
Apple Watch Ultra comes with three built-in microphones. An algorithm decides which microphone to use in windy environments, and any unnecessary noise is filtered out with machine learning to give you the best sound quality.
The watch also has dual speakers, which further improves sound quality for calls and Siri.
5. Water Sports Features
Apple Watch Ultra is the ideal watch for water sports enthusiasts. It’s WR-100 water-resistant if you want to take it for a swim and EN13319 certified. The latter is an internationally recognized standard for scuba diving accessories.
It features a Depth app that shows time, current depth, water temperature, duration underwater, and max depth reached. With the help of the Action button, you can quickly launch the Depth app.
Apple partnered with Huish Outdoors to create an app called “Oceanic+” for the Apple Watch Ultra. It essentially transforms the watch into a full-fledged dive computer. The app will include dive planning, dive metrics, visual and haptic alerts, no-decompression limit, ascent rate, and safety stop guidance.
Oceanic+ will also have a dive logbook that will sync to your iPhone.
6. Crash Detection
As the name suggests, Crash Detection will be able to detect car crashes. The watch will ask the user if they wish tocontact emergency services. If they fail to respond within 10 seconds, the watch will automatically notify the user’s emergency contacts and send them their location.
There are manyways to prepare your Apple Watch for emergencies, but the new Crash Detection feature takes it up a notch. It’s made possible with the help of two new motion sensors, a three-axis gyroscope, and the g-force accelerometer.
Crash Detection uses an algorithm trained using 1 million hours of real-world driving and crash data. The watch is capable of identifying the exact moment the crash happens.
7. Dedicated Bands for Athletes
Apple will sell three unique bands for the Apple Watch Ultra: Trail Loop for endurance athletes, Alpine Loop for explorers, and Ocean Band for water sports enthusiasts. All three bands will have distinctive features and designs.
8. Better GPS Accuracy
The Apple Watch Ultra is the first Apple Watch to use both L1 and L5 GPS. Users will always get the most accurate and precise distance, pace, and route data.
9. Wayfinder Watch Face and Night Mode
The Wayfinder is a watch face made specifically for the Apple Watch Ultra. The watch face has a compass integrated into the time dial, and thanks to the larger screen, it can accommodate up to eight complications.
For better visibility at night, you can activate Night mode on the Apple Watch Ultra by rotatingthe Digital Crownwhen the watch face is set to Wayfinder. This will make the UI bright red, making it easier to see the Wayfinder face in the dark.
