If you have alreadydecided not to upgrade to a PS5 Pro, then how about spending upwards of a grand on one? Why would you do such a thing? Well, because this particular PS5 Pro is designed to look like the original PlayStation from 1994.
Sony Unveils the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection
The 30th anniversary PS5 Pro is just one of a number of pieces of hardware Sony has unveiled as part of thePlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection. All of which are designed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of the original PlayStation (PS1).
The PS5 Pro bundle comes with a retro-styled console, two controllers, a DualSense charging station, and a console cover for the disc drive (sold separately). Also included in the box is some connector housing, some cable ties, a sticker, a poster, and a paperclip.
Also on offer are a PS5 Digital Edition bundle, a PlayStation Portal Remote Player, a DualSense Wireless Controller, and a DualSense Edge Wireless Controller. All of which have been made to look like the original PlayStation console and accessories.
This Is Nostalgic Hardware for Retro Gaming Fans
With the stylings of the original PlayStation console writ large across the collection, this is designed to tug at the nostalgic heartstrings of anyone who owned the OG console. Which, unfortunately for my bank account, includes me.
The level of detail here is a joy to behold, with the classic PlayStation gray wrapping the hardware, and the old-school, multicolored logo catching the eye. There’s also a retro controller cable and cable ties, and even the box it comes in looks the part.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection is being released on July 10, 2025. Pre-orders are set to start on September 26th, either directly from PlayStation or (wherePlayStation Directisn’t available) from participating retailers.
The issue is how limited these Limited Edition bundles are, with only 12,300 units of the 30th anniversary PS5 Pro bundle available. Which means anyone who wants to bag one of these will have to be extremely quick with their pre-order in order to beat the scalpers.
We don’t yet know how much this, or any of the rest of the collection, is going to cost. But withthe standard PS5 Pro consolesetting you back an eye-watering $700, this is likely to tip over the $1k mark. For a games console, some cable ties and a flipping paperclip.
