Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Twisters.

Summary

WhileTwistersisn’t a direct sequel toTwister, the 2024 movie contains characters that seemingly serve as replacements for the original characters, including David Corenswet’s role as Scott. The disaster film, directed by Lee Isaac Chung and written by Mark L. Smith (based on a story by Joseph Kosinski), comes 28 years after the release ofJan de Bont’sTwister. The highly anticipatedTwistersis a standalone sequel as it doesn’t explicitly continue the first movie’s story and includes a whole new cast of storm chasers attempting to tame tornadoes and limit their damage.

Despite the fact that the story andcast ofTwistersgreatly diverge from the original film, it’s obvious that some new characters share traits with the original ones. For example, Bill Paxton’s Bill Harding has a talent for sensing storms just like Daisy Edgar-Jones' Kate Carter. Both also stepped back from storm chasing before being reeled back in, all the while insisting, “I’m not back.” As for Corenswet’s character,Scott shockingly displays qualities similar to one memorable villain inTwister.

David Corenswet’s Twisters Character Is The Jonas Villain Replacement

Cary Elwes Played Jonas In Twister

Scott, played by David Corenswet, serves asTwisters' replacement for Cary Elwes' character, Jonas Miller, fromthe cast ofTwister. As fans will recall,Jonas is Bill and Jo’s enemy from the get-go in the 1996 moviebecause he’s a rival storm chaser (and Bill and Jo’s former colleague) who uses corporate funding. Jonas is in the work of storm chasing to make money, not to help others. Plus, he steals Bill’s design for"Dorothy" inTwister, further adding to their feud. Meanwhile, Scott is Jonas' replacement, butTwistersdoesn’t outwardly portray him as the villain at the story’s beginning.

Twisters' protagonist, Kate, joinsJavi’s Storm Par team, which includes Scott. So,the audience is led to believe that Scott is one of the good guys(despite his outwardly shady and gruff exterior) when, in reality, he’s as much of a villain as Jonas is inTwister.Javi, Scott, and Storm Par seem to mean well at the start. But, as the story continues, Kate learns the company’s investors profit off tornadoes and the damage they leave behind, and Scott doesn’t see a problem with that. Like Jonas, Scott is storm chasing for the wrong reasons inTwisters.

David Corenswet’s Twisters Character Has A Much Different Fate Compared To Jonas In Twister

One Character Dies & One Lives

Even though Scott is meant to mirrorTwister’s Jonas, the two characters differ in one major way. WhereasJonas dies in the 1996 disaster film, Scott lives in the sequel.Jonas, who doesn’t have the same storm chasing skill level as Bill and Jo, chooses to ignore the couple’s advice nearTwister’s ending. Bill and Jo warn Cary Elwes' character that an F5 tornado is shifting direction and heading directly towards him. As a result, the tornado picks up Jonas' car, and it explodes in the air, effectively killing Jonas and the driver. However, Scott has a different fate inTwisters.

Whereas he played a villain (who lives) inTwisters,David Corenswet will take on the role of a hero in James Gunn’s upcomingSupermanmovie.

Jami Gertz as Melissa in Twister.

After Kate leaves the Storm Par team, Scott rides with Javi as they attempt to plant a tornado-scanning device. Unfortunately, a tornado knocks Javi and Scott’s car over, but it turns right side up (thanks to some debris) just as the tornado catches fire. The storm starts heading toward a small town, and while Javi wants to help its citizens, Scott explains how he doesn’t care about them and wants to continue with their original plan.Javi tricks Scott to get out of the car, though, and leaves him strandedwhile he drives away. Consequently, Scott lives atthe end ofTwisters.

It’s Time For Jami Gertz’s Twister Character To Get The Respect She Has Always Deserved

Jami Gertz played Melissa in Twister, and while her character is sometimes negatively received, she is probably the most sane person in the 1996 film.

David Corenswet’s Next Role Will Be The Opposite Of Scott In Twisters

David Corenswet Is The Next Superman

Whereas he played a villain (who lives) inTwisters,David Corenswet will take on the role of a hero in James Gunn’s upcomingSupermanmovie. Scott is willing to let innocent people die to further his personal goals and interests in the 2024 disaster film, but Clark Kent continuously sacrifices himself for others. Superman would act more like Javi (and Kate and Tyler) than Scott duringTwisters' ending, so, fans should expect to see Corenswet in a completely different light whenSupermanpremieres on July 27, 2025.
