The final season ofThe Connersmay leave some storylines unfinished, but one character who isn’t returning can still receive a happy ending. Saying goodbye to the surviving Conners will inevitably feel bittersweet for the show’s fans. Since the days ofRoseanne,The Conners’ charactershave taught those of us who grew up with less than we’d prefer to find humor in a life where scraping together a few thousand bucks to fix the roof feels as impossible as getting the toaster to work after 20 years of its disobedience.

For those of us who rely on that type of humor to get by, there’s no way to wrap upThe Conners’ storythat won’t feel unfinished. And the reality of a 6-episode finale season is thatsome characters onThe Connerswill likely get more satisfying endings than others. But while we’ll always be able to go back and watch thebest episodes ofThe Connersfor comfort, it seems reasonable to at least ask that no characters receive a particularly bad ending. That’s why there’s cause for concern regarding one character in particular.

Johnny Galecki Won’t Be Returning As David For The Conners Season 7

The Actor’s Simply Too Busy Living Real Life To Appear

An unfortunate number of notable actors won’t appear inThe Conners’ goodbye season. Michael Fishman won’t return as DJ, and Estelle Parsons won’t return as Bev. And while he may sound like a lesser character compared to the others, it’s a big blow that David won’t return becauseJohnny Galecki’s currently enjoying his life in Nashville and has no desire to return to acting. He’s amassed enough money fromThe Big Bang Theoryto build a New Orleans-style mansion that was featured inArchitectural Digest, so it’s hard to fault him for wanting to sit back and enjoy that.

The Conners Season 7 Needs A Comeback From An Underrated Character Roseanne Never Met

Now that The Conners season 7 is preparing to wrap up Roseanne’s story, the sitcom needs to bring back one character Roseanne never even met.

This is actually unfortunate news for more than justThe Conners. It also means that he likely won’t be returning to the upcomingspinoff ofThe Big Bang Theory, despite fellowRoseannestar Sara Gilbert being perfectly set up for a possible return to the franchise onceThe Connersends. And sinceDavid was a major part ofRoseannefrom season 4 onward, it’s tough not to see his character receive a definitive ending. However, the show’s writers did have some ideas about how to finish his storyline if he were willing and able to appear.

The Conners Season 7 Has A Planned Story To Redeem David

He’s Needed Redemption Since Season 2

David leaving Darlene during couples therapy in season 2 was a great ending for the character in certain ways. It showed that he was learning to stand up for himself, and the cut to Darlene and David as children right afterward made it feel as if this were simply one of manyunfinishedRoseannestorylines. But while there’s no problem with David leaving Darlene or with Johnny Galecki moving on from the show, learning later thatDavid became a deadbeat dad again as soon as he stopped sleeping with Darlenecompletely ruins his character.

What The Conners Cast Is Doing Next After The Roseanne Franchise Ends

The Conners is coming to an end with its seventh season, and the main cast members of the ABC sitcom already have their next projects lined up.

According toTVLine, the showrunners did have a plan for David in season 7 ofThe Conners. The originally planned storyline would have involvedDavid rebuilding his relationship with Harris and Mark, something he desperately needed to do for several seasons. However, even if Galecki had been available, they were already struggling to pack so many arcs into half a dozen episodes that they weren’t sure how to squeeze him in. Luckily, there’s still a way to pay off David’s storyline in spite of Galecki’s absence.

The Storyline Doesn’t Have To Conclude Onscreen

With such a short finale season, most of thethings that need to happen inThe Conners’ final seasonlikely won’t be addressed. However,David can still get a happy ending thanks to Emma Kenney and Ames McNamara staying on for the finale. It would have been preferable to actually see David reconnect with his children, but even hearing from them that he’s been doing so would make a difference. And in the aforementionedTVLinearticle, executive producer Bruce Helford provides a glimmer of hope when he says that “[David is] very much mentioned, very much alive in the story.”

WTF, ABC?! The Conners Not Bringing Back This Roseanne Character For The Final Season Is Totally Unacceptable

Ahead of its anticipated return, it has already been confirmed that 1 The Conners character isn’t coming back for season 7, and that’s a travesty.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Mark and Harris will actually visit him offscreen during the events of season 7.Harris actor Emma Kenneyhas unfortunately said thatThe Connersseason 7 will leave a few questions unanswered. It would hardly be surprising if this turned out to be one of them. Then again, theConners clan are no strangers to disappointment or doubts about the future. As painful as it is to say, Darlene’s children being promised a better father without actually seeing it happen fits right into that family’s wheelhouse.
