Summary
Sweet Homeended on a high note, but I’m still waiting for my favorite Netflix horror K-drama to return. The list ofK-dramas available on Netflixcontinues to grow, with old and new titles being added to the platform every month.Sweet Home, which starredSong Kang as Cha Hyun-su, was one of Netflix’s flagship Korean series for years and concluded in July 2024 after three seasons. Despite my disappointment with season 2, I likedSweet Homeseason 3’s endingand where the show left things off.
Netflix’s original K-dramas tend to have significant budgets, which is why they often include more visual effects and display a level of production quality that surpasses that of a regular Korean drama. Some of my favorite K-dramas of recent years have been webseries from Netflix, includingAll of Us Are Dead. ArguablySweet Home’s spiritual successor,All of Us Are Deadis set to return for a second season, and I cannot wait for it.

The 8 Most Exciting Things About All Of Us Are Dead Season 2
Despite the lack of updates on Netflix’s All of Us Are Dead season 2, there are plenty of reasons to be excited for the zombie K-drama’s return.
All of Us Are Deadhad one of the best first seasons of a Netflix K-drama, to the point where I’m not even sure if a second season was needed. While I enjoyedSweet Home’s debut, I believeAll of Us Are Deadhad a stronger start. With a relatively more grounded approach and a very simple premise,All of Us Are Deadmade us care about several characters and root for them to make it through the zombie apocalypse. This is similar to whatSweet Homedid, only with a different setting.

Hyosan High wasAll of Us Are Dead’s version of the Green Gome – the location on which most of the events of the show took place. The pacing is faster inAll of Us Are Deadcompared toSweet Home, as the former takes place within no more than a couple of days.Sweet Hometakes a bit more time to get going, especially because the rules of the monster infection are not as simple as those of a classic zombie outbreak.Sweet Home’s castincluded great characters, butAll of Us Are Deadhad fantastic protagonists too.
Sweet HomeandAll of Us Are Deadhave had similar trajectories on Netflix. Both premiered as very successful K-dramas based on webtoons designed exclusively for streaming, withSweet Home’s success opening the door for more webseries on Netflix. All of Us Are Deadpremiered shortly afterSquid Game, meaning that the momentum for Korean shows on the platform was stronger than ever. LikeSweet Home,All of Us Are Deadwas quickly renewed. However, more than two years afterAll of Us Are Dead 2was announced, a release date remains to be announced.

Netflix is using a similar strategy withSquid Game, which will return after 3 years for two more seasons.
Sweet Homefans experienced a similar problem, with the second season releasing three years after the first one. It has since become known thatSweet Home’s seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back, hence the long wait for the second chapter and why season 3 arrived so fast. I can only hope thatAll of Us Are Deadis doing something similar and will return for at least two more seasons after three years of waiting. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how differentAll of Us Are Deadwill be when it returns after so long.

Sweet Home 2left a lot to be desired compared to season 1. While I was expecting the show to expand its scope and bring in new characters, the monster series changed drastically between seasons and lost much of what had made it so special. Given thatAll of Us Are Deadseason 1 ended on a similar note asSweet Home’s first season, I am slightly worried that the zombie K-drama will repeat some of the same mistakes from theSong Kang show. All of Us Are Dead 2will also have to be an original story.
Hopefully,All of Us Are Dead 2will live up to the first season regardless of no longer having the webtoon to adapt.

BothSweet HomeandAll of Us Are Deadcovered the entirety of their respective webtoons in the first season. In other words, for these shows to return for more seasons, they would have to move past their source material and bring in new storylines and characters. This approach did not quite work forSweet Home, whose story in seasons 2 and 3 was more confusing and lacked focus. Hopefully,All of Us Are Dead 2will live up to the first season regardless of no longer having the webtoon to adapt.
