Summary
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Rick and Morty 10th Anniversary Special!WhenMr. Nimbuswas introduced inRick and Morty, fans and in-world characters alike were shocked to learn that this guy, of all people, was Rick’s nemesis.Nimbus just seemed like a spoof of Marvel Comics’ Namor, a side character created for a cheap laugh as opposed to having deep-lore connections with Rick himself. However, afterMr. Nimbus flexed a never-before-seen power, it’s clear that he is worthy of being Rick’s nemesis.
InRick and Morty 10th Anniversary Specialby Alex Firer, Fred C. Stresing, and Dean Rankine, Rick has decided that he’s going to do what Jerry told him to do ten years ago (during theRick and MortyPilot episode, in fact): move out. Rick thinks that ten years ofRick and Mortyis enough, and he’s moving himself into a nursing home just as Jerry suggested. However, before he goes, the Smith Family is bombarded by practically every character who has ever appeared inRick and Morty- including Mr. Nimbus.

When these characters find out that Jerry is the reason Rick is moving out (which, in other words, means Jerry is responsible for the end ofRick and Morty), they decide that killing Jerry is the only answer. With Jerry gone, Rick can stay, and the series can continue as if it was never interrupted. While Jerry gets his butt kicked by a number of these characters, he isn’t in real trouble until Mr. Nimbus steps in. Manipulating the water within his body, Nimbus makes Jerry’s head explode with a mere wave of his hand, flexing his true, terrifying power.

Now It Makes Sense Why Rick is Wary of Mr. Nimbus in Rick and Morty
Rick and Mortyseason 5, episode 1 “Mort Dinner Rick Andre”
Even upon Mr. Nimbus’ debut in “Mort Dinner Rick Andre”, it’s clear that Rick is ashamed to call Mr. Nimbus his nemesis. He reluctantly admits it to Morty when they accidentally crash-land their ship in the ocean, he gets angry with Jerry for questioning the logic of Nimbus being his nemesis, and he even lashes out at Nimbus himself by the end of the episode. However, throughout the episode, Rick is very wary of Nimbus, and works to make peace between them.
In general, if Rick doesn’t like someone who’s making trouble for him, he’ll either freeze them out of his life, or just kill them. But, with Nimbus, Rick goes the extra mile to keep the King of the Sea happy. And now, it’s finally clear why. If Nimbus ever wanted to, he could just pop Rick’s head with a mere thought, and there wouldn’t be anything Rick’s tech could do to save him. It wouldn’t be a fight or a chase, it would be instantaneous, and Rick knows it.

Even with His Great Power, Mr. Nimbus Still Isn’t a Threat to Rick
Rick and Mortyseason 4, episode 1 “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat”
While Rick would rather not have his head popped, Mr. Nimbus still isn’t that great a threat to him in the grand scheme of things. As confirmed in “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat”, Rick has his consciousness plugged into a multiversal network of backup bodies. If he dies, his consciousness will simply awaken in a Rick clone in any number of infinite universes, at which point he can travel back to his world and just create a new permanent body for himself. It’d be inconvenient, but Rick would still be alive after a hypothetical head-popping courtesy of Nimbus.
That being said, Evil Morty did destroy the Central Finite Curve, and murdered practically every Rick in the multiverse in the season 5 finale, so it’s possible Rick isn’t as plugged-in as he once was, meaning a Nimbus head-popping could mean his permanent demise. But, either way, Mr. Nimbus’ power stands on its own as a terrifying ability that Rick is right to be wary of, and seeing it on full display finally confirms whyMr. Nimbusis considered so powerful inRick and Morty.
