Not all videos and images found online are available in high-definition. Besides, not everyone has the budget to upgrade their GPU to a powerful model that can support artificially-induced image and video enhancements.

However, Opera GX users can enable a feature called RGX mode, and it will enhance even the foggiest videos and images. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is Opera GX’s RGX Mode?

Back in December 2022, Opera introduced a new technology into Opera GX, one that would potentially rival that of real-time ray tracing. This technology is called RGX mode, and it’s completely free of charge. In essence, RGX mode is meant to enhance video and image elements as they are seen on web pages.

For those of you who use the regular Opera browser, RGX mode is an enhanced version ofOpera’s Lucid mode.

Is RGX Mode Worth It?

Generally speaking, any other similar technology would require GPU acceleration, which in turn would involve you having to invest in abetter graphics card.

However, RGX technology consumes so few resources that you don’t even need to upgrade your computer with more powerful components. Everything is incorporated right into your browser.

Opera GX RGX A|B Mode

As for how efficient RGX mode really is, the difference between a regular video or image and an RGX-enhanced one is astounding. In fact, the best way to see any differences in terms of image quality is through the use of the Before/After mode:

When viewing an image or a video, hover your mouse over the RGX button for a second. It will now expand, revealing an additional button labeledA|B. Pressing this button will enable Before/After mode.

When active, you’ll be able to see in real-time how RGX mode works, effectively splitting your screen in two. You can see the enhanced video or image on the left, while the unaltered versions are on the right.

RGX Mode Makes Opera GX The Ultimate Gamer’s Browser

Opera included RGX mode only in Opera GX, so it isn’t available to Opera One users. More so, no other web browser features anything remotely similar, making Opera GX the go-to browser for people who want to view images and videos in the highest possible quality.

Admittedly, RGX mode is still under development, but there’s no doubt that it does a great job at cementing Opera GX’s claim as being the best web browser for gamers.
