I gave up on Microsoft’s My Phone, or whatever they’re calling it these days, because of three things. The first being that I couldn’t have my laptop and Surface tablet (which is in a different room,) connected at the same time. The second was the fact that I could not delete messages from the laptop or tablet and have them gone from my phone. The third was that all Microsoft seemed to be interested in were Samsung phones, which I do not have. Google Messages, with Messages for the Web, fits the bill nicely, and allows me to be able to do the first two problems that I mentioned . Nothing to say about the third, because I have a Pixel 7 Pro.
I looked at this page because my phone won’t charge and the new one won’t get here for a couple of days. so I can’t use my phone to pair with. if that’s the only solution, it’s not good enough.
I know this is way late but for anyone else with this problem:
The reason Messages for Web requires a Phone to work is because SMS, MMS, and RCS have to go through the Phone Network.
Most other messaging systems just use the Internet and have Apps for PC.
If you still have the old phone you could try cleaning and/or jiggling the port to get it to charge for a bit. If you’re phone supports Wireless Charging that’s also an option (I intentionally got a phone with Wireless Charging after my last one stopped charging).
If you have another old phone you could potentially swap the SIM card and use that temporarily (I always keep an old phone just in case).
If you have a PC or MAC with a SIM reader you could potentially set up an Android Emulator to get the Messages and Phone Apps working on said PC or MAC.
Note on eSIM. I don’t know too much about eSIMs but I think there’s a way to transfer them without the original phone. It may depend on your carrier and/or country.
