What Are YouTube’s AI Features?
YouTube is testing two new AI features, announced in aGoogle Support poston 6 November, 2023. The features are a conversational AI tool and comment topics summarized by AI.
YouTube’s Conversational AI Tool
The conversational AI tool on YouTube is more or less a chatbot. You can ask it questions about the video you’re watching and get recommendations for similar content.
For example, if you’re midway through a cooking tutorial, you can ask it for the oven temperature without having to pause the video. Or, if you want recommendations for related content, you can also request that.
The chatbot can also access information from YouTube and the web to pull in extra context. you may bring up the chatbot anytime by tapping the Ask button on the video’s watch page.
YouTube’s Comments Summarizer AI Tool
The other YouTube experimental AI tool, comments summarizer, is pretty interesting, too. This tool uses AI to scan all the comments on a video and summarize the key topics people are talking about.
YouTube’s comment summarizer tool is only available in English at the time of writing and is being tested on a small number of videos. So you may not see it on every video yet. But if you get picked as a tester, you’ll see the summarized comment topics underneath the usual comment section.
How to Access YouTube’s Experimental AI Features
If you want early access and try some of these new experiments yourself, the easiest way is if you are already a YouTube Premium member. YouTube often gives Premium users early access to test new features.
All you have to do is visityoutube.com/new. If you see a prompt to try a new experiment, congrats you are in. But check back often if you don’t see anything right away; you may be lucky.
Alternatively, you may opt-in for access on your Android or iOS device by tapping the You tab followed by the settings icon (cog wheel) on the
YouTube app. Tap onTry new features, and turn on any available experimental features open to you.
There is also a feedback signup link on the same page, which you can fill out to let YouTube know what you think about its experimental features and other Google products. It could be the start of some cool new AI tools on YouTube.
Being able to try out experimental features may just be one of the things that helps you decidewhether YouTube Premium is worth the money.

There’s no word yet on when YouTube’s conversational and summarization AI tools will roll out for everyone, but as a Premium member, you’re able to try them now if you get access. Check the “Try new features” page to see if you’re one of the lucky ones.
