Crèche Y’llek, The Githyanki Base
The Strange Chunk of Amber is located in adisplay case within the Inquisitor’s Room inside Crech Y’llek, beneath the Rosymorn Monastery. Reaching the Githyanke Crèche is a significant part of the mainquest inBaldur’s Gate 3, accessible by navigating through the Mountain Pass on your journey to Act 2.
While the Mountain Pass serves as one of the routes to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, you have the option to explore the Underdark as an alternative path to Act 2, ensuring you don’t miss any content. As long as you refrain from progressing into Act 2, you may freely fast-travel between Waypoints within the Mountain Pass, the Underdark, and the remaining areas of Act 1.

Reach The Mountain Pass
To reach the Mountain Pass, you can either head east from the Goblin Camp or take the stone bridge west of the Risen Road Waypoint. Alternatively, thenearest Waypoint is Waukeen’s Rest, located near the burning house on the western side of the map. From Waukeen’s Rest, turn right and head northeast along the trail, passing a wheelbarrow on the left.
Directly ahead, you’ll encounter the Githyanke patrol, part of aBG3quest, where a reddragon inBaldur’s Gate 3stands by the bridge. Players can avoid one of Act 1’s toughest fights byselecting the optimal dialogue options, which you’re able to follow inDaveAsp81’s visual guide. Alternatively, engage the Githyanki warriors in battle.

These enemies are fast and formidable, often using Misty Step to reposition and strike close to players. To handle them effectively, spread your party out, ideally in pairs, to support each other in case any companions fall and need assistance. Utilize the bridge above for ranged attacks, and position a stealth character like Astarion unseen, for devastating sneak attacks.
After either navigating the dialogue ordefeating the Githyanke Patrol, players can cross the bridge. Pass through the archway into the Mountain Pass to open up this new area for exploration, updating the new map.
Enter Rosymorn Monastery
To reach the Monastery, follow the signposts that guide you to a cable car wheel. Use your strongest character, such asKarlach inBaldur’s Gate 3, topass a Strength Check and turn the wheel, bringing a wooden platform to carry you and your party across to the other side.
After arriving, head west from the cable car wheeluntil you reach another signpost. Continue westward, and you will spot the Ancient Sigil Circle Waypoint. From there, proceed to the Rosymorn Monastery.
As you approach the entrance, you will notice raiders outside the monastery. Once they leave, you may explore the exterior freely. However, you will find that the Monastery doors are locked and players cannot uselockpicking inBaldur’s Gate 3. Instead, sneak into the broken window to your leftand defeat the horde of drunk Kobold Scouts inside.
Utilize the flammable wine-filled barrels to your advantage by shooting at them from outside the room, causing a catastrophic explosion to quickly finish the fight.
Enter Crèche Y’llek
After defeating the Kobolds, continue forward and jump to the next cliff. Upon reaching the summit, descend onto the monastery. There, you will find a staircase and a talking statue. Continue downward to encounter abarricade that must be broken through. From here, descend the next set of stairs leading to the basement, granting access to the Githyanki Crèche.
Upon entering the Crèche, you will be greeted by some raiders who will engage you in conversation. It’s crucial to avoid combat here, as fighting would involve taking on the entire Crèche. The best approach is to haveLae’zel inBaldur’s Gate 3as your party dialogue leader, allowing her toconverse with the soldiers and prevent any conflicts.
If Lae’zel is not in your party, you will have to fight your way through and clear the entire Crèche, which is no easy feat.

The simplest way to handle this situation is to hand over the Artifact. It will be promptly returned to you, and Kith’rak Therezzyn will unlock the door to the Inquisitor’s Chamber, allowing you to enter.
Inside the Inquisitor’s Room, turn left to discover a small area with a Display Caseand some chests. Fortunately, this section is outside the Githyanki’s' line of sight and can be safely looted by crouching with a stealthy character likeAstarion inBaldur’s Gate 3.
