To open it, clickStartand typeregeditin the search box. Then, click onRegistry Editorin the search results to open the app. When the UAC (User Account Control) prompt comes up, clickYesto bypass it.

Be sure touse the System Restore feature to create a restore pointthat you can roll back to in case you accidentally mess up the Registry.

In the Registry Editor’s left panel, navigate toHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > DesktopBackground > Shell. Right-click theShellkey and selectNew > Key.

Name this key you just createdAdvancedStartup. Then, right-click theAdvancedStartupkey, selectNew > StringValue(it will appear in the right panel), and name itMUIVerb.

Double-click theMUIVerbentry, enterBoot to Advanced Startup Optionsin the text box forValue data, and clickOK.

Right-click theAdvancedStartupkey again, selectNew > String Value, and name itPosition. Then, double-click thePositionstring value, enterBottomin the text box forValue data, and clickOK.

Next, let’s add the command to boot into Advanced Startup Options. Right-click theAdvancedStartupkey in the left panel, selectNew > Key, and name itcommand.

Double-click the(Default)string value in the right panel, paste the below command in the text box forValue data, and clickOK:

That’s it. Now when you access the context menu from the desktop by right-clicking on an empty space, you’ll seeBoot to Advanced Startup Optionsas one of the options. Of course, Windows 11 users will have to clickShow more optionsto get to it.

When you clickBoot to Advanced Startup Options, the computer will shut down, and when it turns back on, you’ll be greeted by theAdvanced Startup Options menu.

How to Remove “Boot to Advanced Startup Options” from the Windows Context Menu

Removing the option to boot into ASO from the right-click menu is easy. Just open the Registry Editor again and delete theAdvancedStartupkey.

This will delete all the string values, including the one that contains the command.
