Summary

Players inHonkai: Star Rail2.3 may have to choose between pulling for Jade or Argenti, especially considering the limitations on free Stellar Jade, the resource used to obtain Star Rail Passes. Both Jade and Argenti are 5-star characters, each featured in their own character banner. 5-star units have a very low pull rate when compared to 4-star characters or 3-star Light Cones, for instance, and often players go through several dozens of pulls before they see one. This can be a very expensive process when it comes to the usage ofStellar Jade inHonkai: Star Rail.

The choice between these two characters may arise given the fact that both will appear in banners for a limited time during the same period. As such, those looking for a new 5-star addition to their roster may have to decide between one or another instead of claiming both. To do this, it is best to know the pros and cons of Jade and Argenti and, based on that and what is needed to perfect the range of one’s team comp, make an informed decision that will allow them to not waste Stellar Jade on aHonkai: Star Railcharacter.

Pros & Cons Of Pulling For Jade In Honkai: Star Rail 2.3

The New Sub-DPS Is A Specialist In Follow-Up Attacks

Jade, like any other character, has her set of pros and cons. The new addition to the game is a Quantum sub-DPS who follows the Path of the Erudition. While she is proficient at hitting multiple targets at once, her true specialty lies within her follow-up attacks. Jade is a character who is capable of buffing her allies’ DMG and SPD at the cost of their HP and, when she hits the stack threshold, she unleashes a powerful follow-up attack, which is the pillar of her gameplay kit. Jade can apply the DMG buff to herselfin Honkai: Star Rail.

By doing so, however, she forsakes the SPD buff. As a sub-DPS, it is best to have her empower her team’s main DPS, even if it costs them a portion of their HP. Second to her follow-up attacks is her Ultimate, a massive damage-dealing AoE attack that increases the damage of her follow-up attacks. Because of her specialty, inserting Jade into follow-up attack teams is one of the most logical things to do. She is a viable substitute forTopaz inHonkai: Star Rail, for instance, who has long held the reign of sub-DPS for these types of team comps.

“Jade is built like a traditional DPS.”

Even though Jade naturally fits follow-up attack team comps, she is quite flexible when it comes to the sub-DPS role and can be used in several types of formations. While she may not reach maximum performance outside of that, she could very well go alongside a Blade-led party, for instance, buffing the Stellaron Hunter’s damage output and playing into his own HP-loss mechanic, further increasing his damage potential. After getting all theJade Ascension materials inHonkai: Star Railand maxing her out, there are a lot of possibilities, even if it may not seem so from an initial standpoint.

Jade is also fairly easy to build. Even if players do not use her signature 5-star Light Cone, there are substitutes, including a great F2P (free-to-play) alternative, and she just recently got the best Relic and Ornament sets for her kit. Her stat-building is also straightforward, as players will need to treat her like a traditional DPS and seek regular offensive stats like CRIT and ATK.

The arguable downside to pulling for Jade in Version 2.3 is that she may just not be worth it. Unless they are also providing consistent buffs, sub-DPS units are not all too valuable in the game. Topaz excels in her role because of her damage output buffs, though most team comps either follow a hypercarry model with the entire party buffing the main DPS, or a split DPS model, which features two equally important damage dealers. Despite fitting other team comps,Jade only really seems worth it for follow-up attack teamsinHonkai: Star Rail.

Pros & Cons Of Pulling For Argenti In Honkai: Star Rail 2.3

The Physical DPS Is Great At Melting Mobs

The other banner in Phase 2 features Argenti. This character was first released in Version 1.5, back in December 2023. The 5-star Physical character also follows the Path of the Erudition though his focus is not specifically on follow-up attacks like Jade, but mustering up power to deal devastating blows to all enemies on the field.Argenti is arguably the best Physical DPS in the game. The main aspect of his kit is that he has two distinct Ultimate attacks and therein lies the secret toArgenti’s build inHonkai: Star Rail.

With an Ultimate that can be used at the half-Energy level and a stronger one at the full-Energy level, players can consistently spam AoE (area of effect) attacks. Even when the Ultimate is not available, Argenti’s powerful Skill also deals damage to multiple opponents and his Talent allows him to restore a significant portion of Energy. The rotation with Argenti is consistent and his ideal build is easily achievable.

The major downside to Argenti is that he is not very good at focusing on a single target, so in fights against specific bosses that do not have too many summons, the Knight of Beauty can be suboptimal. For these instances, Boothill is much more valuable. However,Argenti compensates for the lack of single-target focus with huge AoE damage, making him the best DPS unit to take into activities like Memory of Chaos, for instance, where players mostly face multiple lesser mobs rather than tough bosses like theGreat Septimus inHonkai: Star Rail, for example.

Overall, both units are great damage dealers, though they have their downsides. However, between Jade and Argenti, Argenti is the optimal choice given his track record of being one of the strongest DPS in the game and his potential to help players fully complete all Memory of Chaos stages with ease. Jade is still a great 5-star pull, especially if players are looking for more variety in their follow-up teams, but Argenti truly excels when it comes to damage potential, making him the best 5-star pull inHonkai: Star Rail2.3’s Phase 2 banners.
