Summary

Elden Ringmay have wrapped up its planned content withShadow of the Erdtreebutone passionate player has one more suggestion that would keep the community satisfied for years. It’s inarguable that the most satisfying feeling in a FromSoftware RPG is overcoming an imposing boss that once felt insurmountable. This process of learning patterns and persevering through the difficulty is partly whyElden Ringis such a spectacular achievement, and yet experiencing those moments of victory over again can be difficult, especially since there’s no way to just skip forward to a beloved boss encounter.

Over on Reddit, userHexent_Armanapitched an excellent idea forElden Ring’s Colosseums, locations that are largely restricted to PvP encounters:Boss rematches.

The fan-pitched system would allow the Tarnished to face off against any boss they’d already defeatedfor reduced rewards; the rematch itself wouldn’t be to grind for unique loot items but simply to quickly get into the game’s more memorable battles. Not only would it add toElden Ring’s longevity, but it would also provide a use for Colosseums to players who may otherwise not care about PvP fights.

Elden Ring DLC: Why The Colosseums Were Built (& Then Abandoned)

The three PvP Colosseums in Elden Ring, like those ancient Rome, were venues of sacred violence abandoned as the values of the Golden Order changed.

Making Elden Ring Even Better

Win Takes All On Round Two

Elden Ring’s Colosseums are excellent additions to the game but these massive arenas only really serve those whoenjoy going toe-to-toe with other Tarnished. Users who have little interest in engaging with PvP content can largely avoid the Colosseums in general butadding in some kind of rematch mechanic would open up a whole new dimension of content. Much like the Chalice Dungeons seen inBloodborne, these “levels” could evenhave a few unique bossessprinkled in between all the familiar faces to keep players on their toes.

While the community was largely enthusiastic about the idea of boss rematches in the Colosseums, it’s unlikely that such a system will be implemented in the future.FromSoftware has confirmed that it has no further plans forElden Ringso now thatShadow of the Erdtreeis in players' hands, there won’t be any more major content drops. Having said that,it’s not impossible to imagine a dedicated fan making a custom mod that adds in a PvE Colosseum mechanic.

Whether or not fans enjoyElden Ring’s Colosseums, the player base unanimously agrees thatShadow of the Erdtreeis a massive success. The sprawling expansion was significantly larger than most expected and despite some hiccups with the new leveling systems and difficulty scaling, the DLC has impressed everyone. Where FromSoftware goes from here remains unknown, but fans are no doubtexcited to see its next major project.
