What’s Different About David Harbour’s New Red Guardian Suit
Red Guardian’s Thunderbolts* Suit Includes Various Plates Of Armors
The Red Guardian suit David Harbour wore to San Diego Comic Con 2024 is a much more heavily armored version of his classic uniform, with different white accents on the chest and neck. The whole neck area in Red Guardian’s new costume is white and tan, and a pair of wing-like stripes replace the original suit’s white X on the chest. Red Guardian’s new suit also sports armor plates on his legs, a pair of tan shoulder pads, and two white stripes on each side of his abdomen, possibly connected underneath a hard armor plate covering his whole torso.
Kevin Feige Still Hasn’t Explained The Asterisk In The Thunderbolts* Title
In 2024, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts was retitled as Thunderbolts*, yet Kevin Feige still did not explain the mysterious asterisk at SDCC 2024.
David Harbour’s new Red Guardian suit is remarkably different from the suit he’s wearing in theThunderboltsofficial concept image, where his suit is fully red-and-black, with no white or tan accents whatsoever. While this drastic difference could be due to design changes executed during production, it could also point to at least one costume upgrade withinThunderbolts' plot. In the movie,David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakovcould receive two new suits from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in exchange for his services.

In Marvel Comics' main continuity, Red Guardian doesn’t have any superpowers, yet he usually doesn’t wear any special armor.
Black Widowintroduced Red Guardian as a Captain America wannabe with waning superpowers derived from the Soviet Union’s own version of the Super Soldier serum. However, Red Guardian’s role in the Red Room’s eradication may have earned him a spot in Val’s new team. Still, Red Guardian likely needs a suit upgrade in order to keep up with his strongerThunderbolts*teammates. The addition of armor plates to Red Guardian’s suit is the least Val could do for Alexei Shostakov, considering that he’s probably the least powerful of all the Thunderbolts.
