Warning: Spoilers ahead for Twisters!

Summary

Even though Daisy Edgar-Jones’Twisterscharacter didn’t end up being Jo and Bill Harding’s daughter, the new character shares a clever connection with Helen Hunt’s original role. Despite a whirlwind of rumors speculating on connections to the 1996 movie starring Hunt and Bill Paxton,Twistersserved as a standalone sequel. However, the movie does have more subtle references to the original film, with members of theTwisterscast, including Edgar-Jones' Kate, sharing some interesting similarities with the 1996 characters, whether in demeanor or appearances.

As stated,Twistersfeatures Easter eggs and referencesto the original movie, which follows a group of storm chasers attempting to use a new weather device in the hopes of gathering unique data on tornadoes. Lee Isaac Chung’s follow-up similarly centers on groups of storm chasers led by Kate and Glen Powell’s Tyler, but in this film, the duo comes together to test out a scientific way to “tame” a tornado. The pair may be successful in their endeavor byTwisters' ending, mirroring Jo and Bill’s accomplishment with the Dorothy device inTwister.

Daisy Edgar-Jones' Clothes In Twisters Are Very Similar To What Helen Hunt Wears As Jo In Twister

Helen Hunt’s Twister Style Was Clearly Inspiration For Twisters

Before Kate encounters her second tornado with Storm Par inTwisters, she’s wearing something almost identical to what Jo wears

Helen Hunt may not have returned forTwisters, but her character Jo seemingly lives on through this next-generation sequel. Aside from the fact thatKate’s team had Dorothy V inTwisters' opening sequence, implying Jo and Bill’s legacy lived on,Daisy Edgar-Jones' storm-chasing style inTwistersis obviously inspired by what Jo wears throughoutTwister. In the 1996 movie directed by Jan de Bont, Jo tended to wear khaki-colored clothes with a white tank top underneath. Before Kate encounters her second tornado with Storm Par inTwisters, she’s wearing something almost identical to what Jo wears in the first movie.

The similarities between Kate’s and Jo’s styles are even more evident duringTwisters' rodeo scene. After the EF3 tornado decimated a small town, Tyler takes Kate to a local rodeo. While Tyler is wearing his traditional cowboy-inspired clothes, it’s difficult to ignore that Kate is once again wearing the tan pants and a white tank top. Just like Jo, whose practical outfits got dirty and beat up after encountering live tornadoes,Kate’s rodeo outfit gets caught in the elements when another dangerous tornado hits the area. Kate and Tyler take shelter in an empty pool while trying to save as many lives as possible, which Jo was no stranger to. Unlike Jonas from the original movie and Javi’s business partner, Scott, Kate and Tyler aren’t storm chasers for profit.

Tyler eventually shares more about his past in Twisters during a key scene, which stemmed from Glen Powell’s own experience with tornadoes.

Kate’s Baseball Shirt In Twisters Is Also A Great Twister Easter Egg

Kate’s Baseball Shirt Connects To The End Of Twister

Interestingly, the nod to Jo through Kate’s clothing inTwistersis not the only callback to the original movie. When Kate and Tyler are working together on her previously abandoned tornado-taming experiment, Kate can be seen wearing a red sleeveless shirt with a “Baseball Bombers” graphic on the front.Kate’s baseball shirt is almost identical to the one worn by the young boy at the end ofTwisterwho emerged from the nearby wreckage with his family. In this case, he was wearing a white shirt, but it was the same graphic seen on Kate’s shirt, givingTwistersanother fun and subtle way to honor the first movie.
