As far removed from the Jedi asCassian Andoris, he still has a surprisingStar Warsconnection toAnakin Skywalker, one that’s facilitated by Anakin’s old apprentice. Following the release of theStar WarsTV showAndor, Cassian has become one ofStar Wars’best characters, and certainly one of its most interesting. Despite his fate inRogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian’s story is pivotal to the eventual victory of theRebel Allianceover theGalactic Empire, making him a smaller scale hero of the Galactic Civil War - and connecting him to a Clone Wars hero.

Anakin Skywalker and Cassian are about as opposite as two individuals could be in theStar Warsgalaxy, with the former being renowned as one of the strongest Jedi of his time and the latter being a boots-on-the-ground type of Everyman hero. Despite this, there is one connection the two share that ties them together. This link, forged throughAnakin’s former Padawan Ahsoka Tano, brings the heroes of two different eras together in an unexpected way.

Cassian Andor Used Anakin Skywalker’s “Fulcrum” Codename

This Name Became Essential To The Rebel Alliance

The codename “Fulcrum,” first adopted by Ahsoka Tano afterOrder 66and the fall of theGalactic Republic, originates from a secret communications channel that Anakin Skywalker would use during the Clone Wars. The origin of this name was revealed inStar Wars: The Clone Warsseason 7, episode 9 “Old Friends Not Forgotten,” which came after itsStar Warsdebut inStar Wars Rebels. Inspired by her Jedi Master’s old communications channel, Ahsoka took on the name to keep her identity a secret, and it became an integral part of Rebellion intelligence.

Star Wars: The Real Meaning Of The Rebels' “Fulcrum” Title

Ahoska Tano and Alexsandr Kallus have both assumed the nickname “Fulcrum” in Star Wars Rebels, but what does the moniker actually mean?

The Fulcrum title went far beyond Ahsoka, asit instead became a way of concealing intelligence operatives' identities while dealing out orders to their subordinates and other contacts. Cassian, when he earned his rank of captain in the Rebel Alliance, was one of the operatives to take on the Fulcrum codename, doing so most notably as a part of the Alliance’s mission to the planet Mustafar. This means that Cassian was actively using a title that originated with Anakin Skywalker, linking the two heroes together.

Other Star Wars Characters Who Also Used “Fulcrum”

Cassian & Ahsoka Were Only Two Of Many Others

Seeing as Cassian wasn’t the only intelligence operative in the Rebel Alliance, he certainly wasn’t the only one who took on the Fulcrum title. As previously stated, it originated with Ahsoka Tano, with the Fulcrum symbol even being designed after her Togruta facial markings. While various other rebels would go on to use it, Cassian included,it also became the codename of someone within the Empire themselves: Alexsandr Kallus ofStar Wars Rebels.

After being trapped on a desolate planet withGarazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, Kallus was inspired to defect to the Rebellion, though this journey began with him acting as a spy within the Empire’s ranks. He used the Fulcrum title to get information to the Rebel Alliance, though it still took a long while for them to trust what he had to say. He is simply one of the many to take on the Fulcrum name, a title inStar Warsthat originated with Anakin Skywalker and has since been passed down from his own apprentice to people like Cassian Andor.
