An artist has recreated theBuffy the Vampire Slayeropening credits in claymation. In the over two decades since it wrapped up,Buffyhas become a cult classic TV show. The series tells the story of a young woman who discovers that her destiny is to kill vampires and other terrifying creatures. It was created by Joss Whedon, and ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003.Buffy the Vampire Slayerfeatured an iconic leading castincluding Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, and Seth Green.

ArtistJoseph Bretthas recently created aclaymation reimagining of theBuffy the Vampire Slayerseason 3 credits sequence. Even the show title is set against a clay backdrop moon to open the sequence. The live-action characters are replaced by stop-motion figures, recreating every shot from the sequence. Mild special effects are used for explosions and character disappearances. The clip uses the same music from the realBuffy the Vampire Slayerseason 3 intro.

What This Means For Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A Buffy Animated Series Never Got Off The Ground

While this is only a recreation of the intro sequence, Brett’s video is a good reminder of theBuffy the Vampire Slayeranimated seriesthat never was. At one point, a concept was put forth forBuffy: The Animated Series, which would have been a spinoff of the live-action mothership series that took place during the events of season 1. While development on the series began in 2001, the series ultimately failed to find a network.

All that exists from theBuffy: The Animated Seriesis a four-minute unaired pilot and a canonical comic story “After These Messages…We’ll Be Right Back!”, which took inspiration from the proposed show’s style. Still, these projects are indicators that this animated series would have looked very different from that of what Brett imagines. Stop-motion animated series are time-consuming and expensive to make, so aBuffy-based claymation series would never actually come to fruition, but Brett’s clip shows that it could work well for the story.

Our Take On This Buffy The Vampire Slayer Art

There Is Still Huge Interest In The Series

I think that Brett’s take on theBuffy the Vampire Slayerseason 3 credits sequence is more of a testament to the lasting impact of the series than anything else. Fan recreations ofBuffythrough art and cosplay have been plentiful over the years. Conversations of aBuffyrebootseries have often been swirling over the years, and the ongoing creation of art like this shows that the fan base for such a series would still exist and be excited about moreBuffy the Vampire Slayer.
