Black Clover is One of the Most Underrated Shonen Ever, & There’s Never Been a Better Time to Start It
Black Clover has never gotten its due, but new developments give anime fans the perfect opportunity to see Asta’s inspiring adventures.
The initial reason for halting production on further seasons ofBlack Clover’sanime beyond season 4 was that the series could only adapt until chapter #272, one of the latest releases before season 4’s debut on June 02, 2025. However, as the manga has cruised past chapter #371 after it transitioned toJump Giga, with another two chapters expected before the Obon holiday in Japan, the anime won’t have pacing issues with the manga, easily adapting up to chapter #331 in season 5. The manga is in its final arc, so it has space to end conclusively before the anime.

Black Clover Season 5 Confirmation Status
It’s a Matter of Time, but Unclear How Long
Fans may be disappointed thatBlack Cloverseason 5 has not received official confirmation. Still, its animating studio, Pierrot, has been busy with high-profile projects, including newNarutoandBleachcontent. However, withBlack Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, it’s clear that Pierrot has not forgotten the iconic magic fantasy anime, giving it space to plan out the manga’s ending. Finally, with the transition to Jump Giga, Yuki Tabata has gotten the necessary breathing room to ensurethe best transition forBlack Cloverto get a proper ending.
Further complicating plans to announceBlack Cloverseason 5 isStudio Pierrot’s shift to a more quality-over-quantity-focused approach, citingBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’ssuccess and reception. While Pierrot’s shift to a seasonal approach benefitsBorutothe most,asBlack Clover’s filler is minimal, it likely means the simple answer behind no confirmation of season 5 is that it has to wait for other projects to finish. Since season 5 is seemingly all but a given, it mostly boils down to waiting, knowing Pierrot will put in the effort to ensure the wait is worth it.

Pierrot Knows How Much the Fandom Wants Their Fix
With the continuously thriving success ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warand another successful outing withKingdomas it recently completed its fifth season, the seasonal anime distribution model has further stalled anyBlack Cloverseason 5 announcements. Should the series continue, it’d be resumed similarly toBleach’sfinal arc treatment, with one-cour installments partitioned over several years to carefully adapt the now over one hundred untouched manga chapters. But until there’s an official announcement from Pierrot, this remains idle speculation aboutBlack Cloverseason 5.
WithPierrot being so strongly influenced by the success of Ufotable’sDemon Slayeranime and general shifts in the industry toward carefully crafted seasonal affairs likeOshi no Ko, they clearly show attentive care to their ongoing stories.Black Cloverseason 4 was mere months of content’s worth away from catching up with the manga, and this wait has allowed Yūki Tabata to build out the series, a rewarding development with increasingly large batches of chapters inJump GIGA.WithAnime News Networkconfirming Pierrot’s upcoming unnamed Magical Girl genre anime, it’s clear fans have to wait forBlack Clover.

This can feel discouraging, but it’s unlikely thatBlack Cloverseason 5 will be abandoned or that fans will have to wait a similarly long time to that of the ten-year wait betweenBleach’s2012-2022 anime hiatus. For now, withThousand-Year Blood Warentering its third of four seasons and other projects likeNaruto, Kingdom, and more, the ball is in Pierrot’s court, or more accurately, Shueisha’s, when they want to resumeBlack Clover. The more positive note about this is, asBlack Cloverslowed its production going into the final arc, it’s produced gorgeous source material to adapt.

The Spade Kingdom Raid Will Be Glorious
With just below sixty unadapted chapters ofBlack Clover’sSpade Kingdom Raid Arc,the absolute pinnacle of the series remains unadapted, making it all the more painful that fans haven’t seen confirmation that it’ll happen. The Spade Kingdom Raid Arc famously has most ofBlack Clover’sbest fights, with beloved characters like Mereoleona getting stunningly unhinged moments against devils and the Dark Triad. Incredible moments include underappreciated yet beloved Black Bulls members getting their moments in the sun, throwing haymakers at the Spade Kingdom’s most heinous villains.
While fights and mind-blowingly gorgeous panels depicting the Dark Triad and their corresponding devils are certainly enticing, massive character developments will also arise. Key romantic subplots will be explored and definitively moved forward; viewer understanding of staple characters like Yuno will forever be changed; andAsta’s united state with Liebe is a furious sight to behold. While it’s fair to want to wait and see the series adapted for the screen, the manga has been churning out some incredible chapters available on VIZ Media’sBlack Cloverportal, and Manga Plus.

Black Clover Season 5 Story
The Spade Kingdom Raid Arc
Black Cloverseason 4 ended abruptly with the introduction of the tenth story arc of the series, but season 5 is poised to introduce many compelling elements to the anime. This includes the backstory for Liebe, about whom Asta just learned, such as his position as the devil granting Asta his abilities. As Asta befriends him, similarly to what Naruto did with Kurama, the anime will be able to flesh out Liebe’s backstory as aBlack Cloverstar, with plenty of other elements of the universe being explored as well.
Black Cloverseason 5 would also explore greater lore about the devils, their hierarchical structure, and their contracts with other key players in the arc. Several key high-ranking devils and their contractual partners will also be featured in this adaptation, namely, the Dark Triad and Dark Disciples of the Spade Kingdom. As these rank among the most despicable villains inBlack Clover, fans will be eager to see them each featured in key battles across the story arc as the series explores other developments inseason 5, including Asta’s newly restored arm granted by Liebe.
