Following the success of theseriesSuperman: Space Age, which earned Eisner-nominations, the creative team has been working onBatman: Dark Age.Space Ageintroduced an alternate version of Batman, as the title dealt a lot with the Justice League and Superman’s role within it.Dark Ageis similarly using a new lens for the titular hero, connecting him to a more rooted American history than other Dark Knight related series have done. Now, one of the newest covers has also delivered a twist to his suit.

It’s not unusual forBatman to be seen in black. Several of his film have been all-black. However, the cowl mirrors bat ears more closely than before. This look flips the Caped Crusader’s gray and black look by making his logo a gray color that lays atop a black background. This is a big shift from his black logo on gray or the brighter yellow emblem on a black backdrop. The subdued aspect of theBatman: Dark Age #6cover suit increases the hero’s ability to blend in significantly, which is fitting considering the other changes and new perspectives that have been added to the character’s latest origin.

Batman’s origin has been told numerous times over the vigilante’s eighty-five-year history. With the threat of the Anti-Monitor ahead, Gotham’s protector, and seemingly the Justice League, will have their hands full. Classic foes like Ra’s Al Ghul and Carmine Falcone have resurged in this series, but the next threat is even more dangerous, making it a perfect time for Batman to truly become the night with his latest batsuit.
