Summary

The new trailer has been released for the upcoming thrillerBagman. The Colm McCarthy-directed movie stars Sam Claflin as a man named Patrick McKee who sees a sinister being from his childhood come back to haunt him, forcing him to protect himself and his family. In addition to Claflin,Bagmanfeatures a leading cast including Antonia Thomas, Frankie Corio, William Hope, Steven Cree, Adelle Leonce, and Henry Pettigrew.

Now,Lionsgatehas released the trailer forBagman.

The trailer begins by introducing the character of the “Bagman” who is “common to almost every culture.” The boogeyman-like Bagman figure eats children, luring them with “toys or candy” and allegedly “preferring those that are nice.” In the twisted storybook tale, it is revealed that he gets his name from his technique, thatinvolves whisking children away in a bag. After introducing the villain, theBagmantrailer introduces Claflin as the protagonist, who is haunted by this story, and later by Bagman when he returns.

TheBagmantrailer does an excellent job concealing most of its main scares. The maniacal grin of Bagman, whose face is obscured by a dark hoodie, is unveiled at the end of the trailer shows his scissors, but hisfull visage of Bagman is still left in the dark. Akin tohorror hits likeThe Babadook,Bagmanalso toys with the scary-story-becomes-reality horror trope, as Patrick’s trauma is transformed into a horrific reality throughout the film’s arc.

Bagmanis set for release on September 20, putting its release before the primary wave of Halloween season. Even with this release date, however,Bagmanis coming out at anincredibly competitive time at the box office. On September 20 alone, the Brad Pitt and George Clooney action movieWolfsis being released, along with theupcomingTransformers One. September 20 will also see the release ofThe Substance, a high-concept Demi Moore horror film that has gotten strong early reviews.

In addition to these fellow September 20 releases,Bagmanis releasing during themost competitive month for horror so far this year. Kicking off the spooky September isThe Front Room, which is coming out on September 6. The following week,Speak No Evilwill be released, which will still provide competition forBagmanas it provides competition during its second weekend. The weekend afterBagman’s release, horror-thrillerNever Let Gocomes out September 27. WhileBagmanmay have a promising trailer, it will have to compete with a litany of horror titles during its competitive release month.
