Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Alien: Romulus!
Alien: Romulus 2may be on the way, and this theory regarding Fede Álvarez’sAliensequel shows that the movie may repeat the franchise’s biggest villain story - but this time with a hero. AlthoughAlien: Romulustakes place after the originalAlienmovie, the film features some connections to Ridley Scott’s series ofPrometheusprequels, with the film finally linking the two sagas together. Thesuccess ofAlien: Romulushas made a sequel inevitable, but the ending ofAlien: Romulushighlights how this sequel may be even scarier than its predecessor.
After the major success of the 2024 film, anAlien: Romulussequel is already being discussed by Fede Álvarezand 20th Century Studios, meaning that the iconic sci-fi horror franchise will continue on into the future. While nothing is official, story ideas have been discussed, and the studio is attempting to get Fede Álvarez back to work on the new film. While there are all kinds of possibilities for what the story of a potentialAlien: Romulus 2could be, the most obvious one is incredibly dark, with it painting a bad picture for Rain and Andy’s futures.

An Alien: Romulus Sequel Has To See Rain & Andy Go To Yvaga
After The Ending Of Alien: Romulus
If anAlien: Romulussequel does happen, then the movie has to see Rain and Andy go to Yvaga III. Throughout the firstAlien: Romulusmovie, getting to Yvaga III was the main goal of Rain and Andy.Alien: Romulus' Yvaga IIIwas painted as a paradise full of lush natural landscapes and wildlife, with the most notable thing about the planet being the complete absence of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Although Rain had never been to Yvaga III, she believed that it was the answer to all of her problems, leading to the story ofAlien: Romulus.
Alien: Romulus' 10 Scariest Scenes Ranked
Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus features some truly terrifying and very scary moments with several scenes that will make you jump out of your seat.
The main story ofAlien: Romulusfollows the castattempting to steal some cryosleep pods that they can use to make the journey to Yvaga III, showing how much trouble they were willing to go through to reach the planet. Although most of the crew died during the events of the film, Rain and Andy were able to successfully escape theRomulusspace station on a ship headed for Yvaga III.Alien: Romulusconcludes with the duo en route to Yvaga III, and while they haven’t reached it yet,Alien: Romuluswill undoubtedly pick up with their Yvaga arrival.

Rain & Andy May Destroy Yvaga In Alien: Romulus 2
Thanks To The Black Goo
Although it wouldn’t be intentional, Rain and Andy may destroy Yvaga III upon their arrival inAlien: Romulus 2. Rain and Andy aren’t the only important things on the ship that is headed to Yvaga III, as it also contains the vials of black goo fromPrometheus. This black goo has already been shown to be incredibly dangerous, with it destroying almost anything that it touches throughoutPrometheus,Alien: Covenant, andAlien: Romulus. This was set up with the laboratory scene inAlien: Romulus, showing how it evolves small animals to the point of death.
If the black goo gets loose on Yvaga III, it could absolutely decimate the planet, destroying the paradise that Rain and Andy believe that they are going to. Since Yvaga III doesn’t have any Weyland-Yutani presence, the planet probably doesn’t have a way to fight back against the black goo. Thus, Andy and Rain arrival on the planet could be a death sentence due to the stowaway scientific experiment.

This isn’t just speculation. In fact,Fede Álvarez has already teased thisAlien: Romulussequel story. When talking about what Rain and Andy could get up to in a sequel, the director teased that Yvaga III may turn out to be not what it seems. Instead, he thinks that Rain and Andy could discover that Yvaga III is a “terrible place,” although it isn’t known if this is due to the destruction by the black goo or the fact that Yvaga III is already a terrible place. Here is the director’s full comments on the matter:
For me, it’s always been about story. So, once we finished, we started thinking, “What do you think happens when or if they get to your Yvaga? Is it going to be great? Or is it a terrible place?” We tend to believe it’s probably a terrible place thattheythink is great and fantasize about, so we naturally started thinking about where it goes and what’s going to happen. And then, a few minutes in, we go, “Oh, that sounds like a sequel.”
Rain & Andy’s Destruction Of Yvaga Would Repeat David’s Alien: Covenant Story
He Destroyed The Engineer Home Planet With The Black Goo
HavingRain and Andy destroy Yvaga III with the black goowould be an interesting parallel in theAlienfranchise, with it repeating David’sAlien: Covenantstory. Michael Fassbender’s David is a synthetic who was first introduced inPrometheus, with him turning out to be a villain who is obsessed with creating the perfect being. Through using the black goo, David hopes to create an incredibly dangerous monster, with the product of these experiments being a predecessor of theAlienfranchise’s iconic Xenomorph.
Alien: Covenantreveals that, after the events ofPrometheus,David managed to travel to the planet of the Engineers. Upon his arrival, David released the black goo, with it taking over the planet and destroying it. It caused a disease that killed all of the Engineers while also completely terraforming the planet, with it even creating monsters out of the wildlife that withstood the goo’s influence. While David intended to do this, Rain and Andy’s destruction of Yvaga III would likely follow a similar path, making them David’s spiritual successors.
Alien: Romulus' Yvaga Story May Continue The Franchise’s Best Prometheus Future
Paralleling The Prequels Without Directly Continuing Their Stories
Having this Yvaga III story parallel David’sAlien: Covenantplan is smart, as it continues the franchise’s bestPrometheusfuture. ThePrometheusprequels have always been controversial, and while they have their fans, they aren’t as beloved as the mainstreamAlienmovies. Since thePrometheusmovies are so lore-heavy, it is difficult to intertwine them with the mainlineAlienmovies in a way that works for viewers who haven’t seenPrometheusandAlien: Covenant. However,Alien: Romulusfound the right balance.
Who Is The Father Of Kay’s Baby In Alien: Romulus?
Kay’s pregnancy is a key plot point in Alien: Romulus, but she never actually names the father of the baby. So, who is the Offspring’s dad?
Rather than directly continuing the story ofAlien: Covenant,Alien: Romulusused some of the building blocks ofPrometheusand told a new story with them. This can most notably be seen inAlien: Romulus' usage of the black goo, with it paralleling the black goo fromPrometheus. Having Rain and Andy’s stories continue these parallels is the best way forward for the franchise, further linkingPrometheuswithAlien: Romulus.
