Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2looks to be living up to all the expectations that the fan base had for it. It faithfully brings the deadly and somewhat strange universe ofWarhammer 40kto the video game scene, from its visual details to its enemies, such as the overwhelming numbers of the Tyranid hordes. Most importantly, the game feels likeWarhammer, with squads of Space Marines that constantly call each other brother while fighting in the name of the Emperor.

Althoughthe main story follows a squadron of Ultramarines, the mascots for the Space Marines and theWarhammer 40kuniverse as a whole with their dark blue armor, players can customize their Space Marine to be a part of whatever Chapter they wish. Titus, the protagonist of the series, even spends the beginning of the game as a member of the Deathwatch. Still, even after all his heroic actions, Titus finds himself somewhat upstaged by Chairon, a member of his squad. This is something that should have been expected thanks to a tiny cosmetic detail.

Marksman’s Honour Decoration Foreshadows How Deadly Chairon Is

And It Is A Nice Nod To Warhammer 40K Lore

Chairon is one of the Ultramarines under the command of Lieutenant Titusand is one of the stars inSpace Marine 2’s main story. As expected of any Space Marine, not just an Ultramarine, he is a capable and powerful warrior, cutting quite an imposing figure in his dark blue Power Armor.

Space Marines themselves are genetically engineered super soldiers that command respect among their allies, being given the title of Lord, and fear among their enemies, being some of the deadliest warriors inWarhammer 40,000’s lore.

One of the few units superior to Space Marines in lore arethe Adeptus Custodes, the bodyguards for the Emperor.

Even with the constantly tested reputation of Space Marines as dangerous warriors and the Emperor’s Angels of Death, Chairon manages to stand out among the already elite.

This is seen in the early cinematics of the game, where Chairon seems to have the Marksman’s Honour decoration on the pauldron of his Power Armor. It should be noted that the Marksman’s Honour would normally hang on a belt or a Boltgun, one of the iconicweapons for a Space Marine, but Chairon could have decided to move it for whatever reason.

To even be consideredfor having the Marksman’s Honour,a Space Marine must have demonstrated a feat of remarkable accuracy with a ranged weapon. An example is given by Primarch Roboute Guiliman as:“striking a chink in a man-sized opponent’s armour at the edge of his weapon’s maximum range.”

This is just one example of how to earn the honor. As laid out by the Codex Astartes, this honor is meant to identify skilled marksmen in a Space Marine Chapter so that their commanders can identify them and use them best in battle.

This Ultramarine Is A Complete Savage

[Spoilers ahead for theWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2campaign.]

With all the missions that Titus and his squad go through,it is clear that they are exceptional among the Ultramarines, especially with how easily they dispatch Chaos Space Marines, who are meant to be comparable in power to their Imperium of Man counterparts.Chaos Space Marines in PvPare a testament to this.

Titus himself is already the hero that went through all ofSpace Marine 1, so it makes sense that he has a squad of Ultramarines that can keep pace. Chairon, however, can do far more than just keep pace.

There is a section of the campaign in which players meet with an old ally of Chairon, who gives Titus' squad a lift in a tank across a bridge. This takes place just before the introduction of the Chaos Space Marines, and they enter by killing Chairon’s ally.

Shortly after,Charion enters a blood rage, charging the Chaos Space Marine forces alone while separating himself from the remainder of the Squad, carving through them with relative ease despite having to fight other Space Marines as well-equipped (or at least as relatively well-equipped) as him.

Chaos Space Marines are also known as Traitor Marines, Renegade Marines, or Heretic Astartes.

Although this isn’t the most tactically sound idea from Chairon, the fact that he can survive alone against a horde unleashed by the forces of Chaos is extremely impressive. He does receive covering fire from the rest of the squad, but they end up being busy with dealing with enemies of their own most of the time.If Chairon was less exceptional among the Ultramarines, he would likely have fallenduring this sequence, but thanks to the strength of his rage and his skill, he navigates the situation with relative ease.

Chairon Is Titus' Most Loyal Soldier In Space Marine 2

Blood Rage Aside, He Backs His Commander

Chairon is just like many other Ultramarines in that he follows the Codex Astartes, likes to shoot aliens, and is loyal to the Imperium of Man,except he’s just better at his job than most. He’s an exceptional marksman, thanks to earning his Marksman’s Honour, and an unstoppable force when in a blood rage. Despite Titus' reputation as one of the greatest heroes among the Ultramarines, Chairon manages not to be out-shined bySpace Marine 2’s protagonist.

Does Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Have Local Co-Op?

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is packed with co-op content for fans to sink their teeth into, but can players experience it in local co-op?

Of the two other squad members,Chairon remains the most loyal to Titus, staying true to him even after he is falsely branded as a heretic. Gadriel, on the other hand, immediately attempts to shoot his commander, and the best part of it all is that the trio get over this really fast, as Space Marines tend to.

Killing heretics and traitors is part of the job of an Ultramarine, after all, and Chairon is certainly good at his job. He also commits to his job with a lot of fervor too, which makes him even more of a savage when killing foes.

Chairon is practically everything that mostfans love about Space Marines, and his inclusion inWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is a welcome one alongside the more level-headed Gadriel and the returning war hero, Titus. The inclusion of his Marksman’s Honour is a nice nod to the universe’s lore too, and is but one example of all the little details put into the game. It is the perfect love-letter toWarhammer 40,000fans and is a more than worthy sequel to its predecessor.
