For seven seasons, one vocal and large corner of the9-1-1fanbase has beencalling for Buck and Eddie to turn their friendship into a romance,but season 8, episode 6 seemingly shut down that plea. Ever since Eddie joined the cast of9-1-1in season 2, many viewers have picked up on the chemistry between him and Buck. The two characters quickly became best friends and undoubtedly have one of the strongest relationships in the series. Later, Eddie bumped into the priest he confessed to. While speaking to Father Brian,Eddie stated that he was straight because he thought the priest was hitting on him.Eddie verifying his sexuality evidently squashes the hope for him and Buck to become a couple.

Up until then,many (who were rooting for Buck and Eddie) hoped that Eddie’s sexuality was fluid.But him saying out loud that he is straight certainly isn’t a good sign for Buck and Eddie’s possible romance.

In May 2024, when asked about the possibility of a Buck and Eddie romance, Ryan Guzman toldSwooon:
“We just got to the point where Buck is having this own personal growth of himself, so it’s like baby steps towards anything and if anything.”
Oliver Stark has also been open to exploring a different side to Buck and Eddie’s relationship, andshowrunner Tim Minear hasn’t closed the door to a potential romance between the two characters.So, anything is possible. However, given Eddie’s comment in9-1-1season 8, episode 6, fans shouldn’t expect Buck and Eddie to date anytime soon.
