Summary

When considering the massive implications ofCobra Kaiseason 6 part 1’s big twist, four months is an extremely long wait. AfterCobra Kaiseason 5’s ending, there was the appearance of a united front on Daniel and Johnny’s side, with all major rivalries seemingly over. But as Cobra Kai season 6 immediately proved, that was never the case at all.

Cobra Kaiseason 6 was quick to revive several feuds, one of which being Sam and Tory’s. Though their friendship never officially came to an end, it’s known now that they’re back on opposite sides. Shockingly, Tory was shown on Cobra Kai’s sidelines at theSekai Taikai tournamentin theCobra Kaiseason 6 part 1 finale. The significance of such a pivot for the show makes it one of the series' biggest cliffhanger endings.

After That Tory Twist, Cobra Kai Has A Lot To Explain When Season 6 Returns

In September, when the second segment of the season releases on Netflix,Cobra Kaiwill have a number of questions to answer when it comes to Tory. It was obvious that Tory had broken with Miyagi-do when she stormed out of the dojo, but that alone didn’t explain her decision to join forces with Kreese again. Either his talk with her resonated more than the episode initially let on, or something else of note occurred after Tory walked out onMiyagi-do’s Sekai Taikai team. Regardless, the character going to South Korea, putting aside her issues with Kim, andreturning to her role of Kreese’s champion marks a sizable shift in direction with her arc.

As it stands, her motives for participating in the Sekai Taikai as an enemy of Miyagi-do require clarity. She was angry at Daniel for postponing her fight with Sam, but it’s hard to imagine that being her sole motivator for competing in an international tournament and representing Kreese’s Cobra Kai again. From the looks of things, Tory accepted Kreese’s explanation for why he chose to cast her aside in season 5, which could have to do with why she’s joined his team. But of course, that too will remain unconfirmed untilCobra Kaiseason 6 part 2.

Has Cobra Kai Ruined Tory’s Redemption?

On one hand, it may be easy to see Tory’s decision as a step backward. However, nothing that she has done has wrecked her redemption arc. She’s not gone back to bullying or excessive violence. What she does next could change that, of course, but given that Kreese is the only sensei to successfully connect with Tory, her choice isn’t completely unreasonable. She’s never had a meaningful dynamic with Johnny or Daniel, which lessens the sense of betrayal that comes with her big move. Instead, it puts her back on the side of her true mentor inCobra Kai.
