Episode 3 - “Just A Friend”
One of the funniest quotes is also one of thebest pop culture references inThat ’90s Showseason 2. Ozzie’s imagination and sharp tongue are two of his best qualities, and his dream sequence Mentos commercial proves this amazingly. The scene is nothing short of hilarious, and Ozzie being carried through the Formans’ living room by several shirtless men through a grainy, ’90s-style lens is completely brilliant.
However, Ozzie’s comical tagline,“It’sMentos, b*tches,” is the best part of this scene. This line reflects Ozzie’s personality well, although it does border on making him a stereotype within reason. Despite this, the quote is still hysterical. Ozzie’s mindset, which makes him believe thathe has the charm and appeal of an enthusiastic commercial actor,is fabulous,but this moment is even better because of his quick-thinking marketing idea.

Red Forman’s “foot in ass” lines are some of thebest quotes fromThat ’70s Show, so it is hilarious that he’s still using them in the ’90s, too. There are a few of these quotes in the latest installment of the show, although the best is when Red first meets Kitty’s spiritual healer, Kiefer. Kiefer is portrayed by Will Forte, one of several fantasticcelebrity cameos inThat ’90s Showseason 2. However, the reason why this particular interaction is one of the funniest quotes is because of the reactionKiefer offers to Red’s random threat of violence.
Any of the kids that grow up with Eric inThat ’70s Showknow that Red isn’t to be messed with, but Kiefer isn’t familiar with the Forman patriarch. When Red asks,“When’sthe last time you had a foot up your ass?” Kiefer responds genuinely with “Last Thursday.” This is one ofRed Forman’s best quotes, although it shows that his age and dwindling level of dominance aren’t as strong as inThat ’70s Show. Red isn’t used to someone not understanding his go-to punishment, and his stunned facial expression at Kiefer makes the moment even funnier.

Episode 5 - “What Is Love”
One of the greatest TV duos is Red Forman and Bob Pinciotti inThat ’70s Show,so it is terrific to see the pair reunite inThat ’90s Showon a more permanent basis. WithBob’s expanded role inThat ’90s Showseason 2, he’s able to be just as involved as a grandparent to Leia as Red and Kitty are, although it comes with conflict. When the two argue about who will teach Leia to drive, Bob reminds Red that he is just as related to her as he is, stating,“I’mher grandpa, too! Midge swore to me.”
This is a very funny callback to Bob and Midge Pinciotti’s marriage issuesthat span throughoutThat ’70s Show. Bob and Midge’s relationship is far from perfect in the ’70s, resulting in a swinging period and multiple separations, and this quote is a reminder of that. Midge and Bob are very different people physically and personality-wise, and it’s always comical when the show highlights Donna’s wildly different appearance to that of her father. Even thoughMidge isn’t a part ofThat ’90s Show, it is still funny that their disastrous marriage is recognized.

Seth Green’sThat ’70s Showcharacter Mitch returns in the episode “Just a Friend” as the manager of Point Place’s Hot Topic.Mitch and Eric are bitter rivals inThat ’70s Show,and in the ’90s, Mitch’s grudge is still very much apparent.Hilariously, Mitch fails to realize Leia is lying when she denies being a Forman, which is ironic, considering that trust is so important to him. After he discovers Gwen hooking up with Cole, who works at Abercrombie and Fitch, Mitch is devastated and tells her, “This is Hot Topic, and you know what the topic is? It’s trust.”
Mitch’s childish stomping of his feet against the backdrop of the Hot Topic makes this moment even funnier. Mitch acknowledges he has little going on in his life, which makes his heartbroken reaction to the news even more absurd, but it does show his bizarre commitment to the retail chain.Mitch is just as competitive and immature inThat ’90s Showas he is inThat ’70s Show,despite it being over 15 years later, which is also what makes him such an enjoyable character.
6"Dude, You Wouldn’t Live Through It." - Donna Pinciotti
Episode 2 - “Something To Talk About”
In “Something to Talk About,” Jay very much proves that he is his father’s son. In typical Kelso style, Jay concludes that the best way to make things fair with Leia for almost kissing Nate at the end ofThat ’90s Showseason 1 is to make a move on Donna. This is an apparent Kelso moment, and although Jay is quite different from Michael in many ways,it’s clear he inherits the Kelso womanizing gene.Donna is used to Michael’s constant attempts at flirting with her inThat ’70s Show, so she knows how to deal with an irritating Kelso.
However, teenage Donna also reappears briefly because of how she responds to Jay’s flirting. Initially, she doesn’t notice Jay’s attempts, which is surprising as she grows up with his father. When Leia catches them and storms off, though, Donna dryly tells Jay, “Dude, you wouldn’t live through it.” This is a brilliant burn on not just Jay but also Eric, as theThat ’70s Showuniverse once again makes a mocking reference to Eric’s weak physical structure and bumbling personality.
5"Homewrecker Says What?!" - Kitty Forman
Episode 1 - “You Oughta Know”
After Donna brings Leia to Point Place for the summer in “You Oughta Know,” Kitty is quick to start hounding her daughter-in-law about living so far away. Even though she is Eric’s wife,Kitty is also a surrogate mother to DonnainThat ’70s Showbecause of Midge’s absence and Bob’s incompetence.Despite knowing Donna since childhood, Kitty still frequently makes remarks about Donna stealing Eric away from her. While comments like “Homewrecker says what?!“appear to be genuine and are played for laughs, Kitty truly loves Donna like her own.
Regardless, this quote is still amazingly funny because of how fast Kitty makes the quip. Even when Donna lets her guard down and thinks that the constant passive aggressiveness is stopping, Kitty still swoops in. Some ofKitty’s funniest quotes inThat ’70s Showabout being Eric’s mother are still relevant in the ’90s, simply because she can’t resist reminding everyone that her “baby boy” is gone. Although Kitty is forced into a compromise, with Bob taking the newly empty house across the street instead, her ridiculous remarks do allow her to be closer to her family.

4"You Make Me Feel The Opposite Of Gay-A” - Jay Kelso
After being apart for months, Leia and Jay are keen to spend some quality time together.Unlike his father, Jay Kelso is quite romantic,so he serenades Leia on the driveway with his guitar. Despite his enthusiasm and hard work, lyric writing isn’t a particularly strong skill for Jay, with the best line of his song being, “You make me feel the opposite of gay-a.” Every line of the song is humorous, with each rhyming with Leia’s name. Although, in reality, Jay simply adds the “a” sound to the end of the last word.
While this quote isn’t directly offensive, it does highlight the use of the word in the ’90s, especially by heterosexual people. It’s funny that Leia makes Jay not “feel gay,” but the reason why this moment is so brilliant is because it’s also illogical. The entire song is nonsensical but comical, but the true comedy during this moment is how genuine and committed Jay is to wooing Leia. Jay doesn’t think about what the words actually mean because he is so focused on the rhymes, hilariously.
Episode 7 - “Baby-Baby-Baby”
Red’sThat ’90s Showseason 2 twistis a shock, but it also strangely mirrors another storyline fromThat ’70s Show. After Red discovers Leia’s plans to have sex with Jay, he starts having heart palpitations. InThat ’70s Show, Red has a heart attack after learning Laurie marries Fez so he can stay in the country. Much like his response to his daughter’s surprising news, Red tells Leia at the hospital that his heart troubles are a result of his “disappointment of seeing [her] ruin [her] life.”

It is an unexpected but well-welcomed moment when Leo returns in “Friends in Low Places,” and in the character’s typical style, he appears in the most random and nonsensical way. Leo materializes inThat ’90s Show’s season 2 ending episodeduring Leia’s party, believing it to be a celebration of his retirement. In the circle, both Leo and Tommy Chong’s famous stoner personality shines once again as the character tells the gang about his plans for the future. First, Leo shares that his son, apreviously unseenThat ’70s Showcharacter, is taking over for him.
However, Leo’s other pursuits are what makes this scene so funny.Leo’s sense of time is baffling and completely wrong in bothThat ’70s ShowandThat ’90s Show,so his remark about having “four years of eligibility to play college football” is absolutely hilarious. What makes it even better, however, is that Leo is so certain about this fact. It never occurs to him that he’s not making sense, and perhaps the drugs disillusion him into believing his own stories. Regardless, Leo’s comedic timing and confidence always result in laughter, no matter what he says.
1"She’s Like A Doll That Was Wished To Life Yesterday." - Nikki
Even when Nikki is heartbroken after finding out about Nate and Leia’s almost-kiss, she still manages to make a joke. When Gwen and Ozzie visit Nikki to see how she’s doing, they reassure her that Leia has left, fearing an uncomfortable encounter or even a fight. However, the true source of Nikki’s anger is that Gwen fails to tell her the truth for nearly a year. Before Nikki can explain her feelings to Gwen, she swiftly insults Leia by referring to her as a “doll that was wished to life yesterday.”
Nikki’s character still lacks a proper purpose or role, but this is something thatThat ’90s Showseason 2, part 2, can fix. However, this sharp-witted quote proves thatNikki is observant of those around herand quickly picks up on the personalities of others. Leia is more naive and childish than her friends inThat ’90s Show, although a lot of her stumbling and awkwardness comes from Eric. While the likes of Jay and Gwen quickly take to Leia arriving in their lives, Nikki isn’t as susceptible to Leia’s innocent charm, which is hilarious.
